walkwithheroes: [Doctor Who] (Rose Tyler: Defender of Earth)
It's been ages since I've discussed Doctor Who, but I have kept up with season/series seven of the show. I'll give some brief thoughts about episodes three-six and than discuss episode seven.

last three Pond episodes. . .until the 50 year union special )

I would say that I liked the first, fourth, and fifth episodes of the first half of S7. I didn't love any of them, but they were enjoyable and Matt, Karen, and Arthur had great chemistry. Plus, Amy/Rory will always be one of my OTPs for Doctor Who.

Now, let us discuss the Christmas Special: "The Snowmen" aka episode 7.6.

Sir Ian McKellen is in it! )

Now we have "The Bells of Saint John" aka episode seven of series seven.

I already ship Clara/Eleven. I'm doomed )

I honestly think that Matt and Jenna have amazing chemistry and play really well off one another. I just wish someone else was in charge of their overall story. I just have a horrible feeling that Moffat will screw it up in favor of River Song or a dramatic ending or something. So help me, I'm 'shipping Eleven/Clara.

This series has been extra long, and it really does feel like we're just getting to know Clara. And explore the new dynamic between the Eleventh Doctor and his very mysterious Companion.

Today I'll be voicing my thoughts on episodes seven, eight, nine, and ten. S7 is 13 episodes, btw.

So, what do we have to look forward to during the next three episodes?

Doctor Who came back with its sixth series (since the reboot with Nine)last week. I watched the first two episodes - a two-parter that took place in America in 1969 - tonight. It was written by Moffat, which isn't really a good thing in my opinion. My problem with Moffat's writing is that he tends to ignore true character development and just go for the "scary" (which isn't always scary) and the shocking twists and turns (which aren't always shocking). He can come up with some great aliens and some very interesting ideas, but Moffat has trouble following through. I find his stories to be terrible anti-climactic.

and um, ok )

Like S5, I think this series will be a mixed bag for me. I didn't start to like S5 (and I only liked it) until mid-way through. I think it will be that way again.
walkwithheroes: [The Princess Bride] ([Film] Hide Out)
Though I may not talk about all of them here, these are the dramas that I plan on watch or am currently watching. Let me know, if there is anything else you think I'd enjoy!

Western Stuff

The Borgias, Season 1 - I've watched all four episodes and am enjoying the show. And, I'm wrong shipping siblings! Oh, that won't end well.
Game of Thorns, Season 1 - Have first episode, need to watch.
Doctor Who, Series 6 - I was rather underwhelmed with the first episode. But, ever since Moffat took over as show runner, I haven't liked his episodes. And, to be honest, I don't love him as a writer in general.

Taiwanese/Chinese Stuff

Rainbow Sweetheart - Okay, so it airs in December. But, I'm still watching all the subbed previews that are coming out this summer.

The Vigilantes In Masks - The first six episodes are subbed! I'll be watching them soon.

(Now. . . if only they'd sub The Myth)

Korean Stuff (the season of romantic comedies!)

49 Days - I skim bits and pieces.

All That Glitters - A switched at birth story! I'm not loving it, but I like certain characters, so I fast forward to their scenes.

Can You Hear My Heart - I am in love with this drama after six episodes.

Ripley - Maybe. The real life story is interesting. But, I'm scared that they'll water it down, to make someone who did something horrible, into a poor misjudged saint. propelled by her greedy desires that stem from an unfortunate childhood. always makes me nervous. I'd hate for it to be another Bad Guy.

You've Fallen For Me - I'm a bit nervous, because Jung Yong Hwa basically played himself in You're Beautiful and Park Shin Hye really only works for me in dramas. But, I like them, so. . .I'll give it a try. Plus - Song Chang Ui!

Romance Town - Once known as Maids, it's the story of a woman who is forced to follow in the family tradition of being a maid after her father puts the family in debt. A story we've seen before (poor girl works for cold, rich man and they fall in love), but I adore Sung Yu Ri.

Lie to Me - Yoon Eun Hye is a government worker who lies that she's married to a rich man played by Kang Ji Hwan, because she's annoyed with people asking her when she'll finally get married. I adore Kang Ji Hwan and think Yoon Eun Hye works best in rom-coms, so. . .I'll be checking this out.

The Greatest Love - The Hong sisters take on K-variety shows and the culture of celebs and Idols being given fake personalities to win the public over. Plus, the cast is awesome.

Japanese Stuff

Shiawase ni Narou yo - I'm not sure. I hear it is a very cliched love story, with grown ups acting like they've never been in a romantic relationship before.

Good Life~Arigato, Papa. Sayonara - I want to, because I love the cast. But, do I need a teary drama about a child dying? If its well written, I do.

Asuko March! - A cliched school drama, to be sure. But, I'll check it for Takei Emi.

Umareru - I really adore most of the main cast. But, the first reviews are saying its a heavy handed family drama, that comes off as preachy. True? Not true? And just what is that family secret?

Rebound - The story of a woman who loses weight, then begins dating a patissier. It sounds very silly, but it stars Aibu Saki, whom I'm very fond of; Hayami Mokomichi, who isn't a great actor, but whom I like; and,Kuriyama Chiaki, whom I also like. Plus, it is written by Yukawa Kazuhiko, who brought me Magerarenai Onna, Koi ga Shitai x3, Dare Yori mo Mama wo Aisu, Jyoou no Kyoushitsu, Gakko ja Oshierarenai!. In short, Yukawa Kazuhiko has a way of writing off-beat characters that I love and strong women.

So, that's it. What I am watching or what I plan to check out. Let me know if I've left something off or if you've seen one of these dramas and already have an option.

I've decided that 2010 was a great year for couples, OTPs, ships, whatever you wish to call them. I've made two different lists: one for Western Television and one for Asian Dramas. In order to make the list couples had to have certain things:

01. I had to have watched the series in 2010/it had to have aired in 2010.
02. They had to have been a couple or have had UST/potential couple-dom in the future.
03. I had to have loved them and wanted them to be together. (I had to want them to be together; not just liked them because they were the show's couple)
04. They had to have been together as a couple/potential couple for at least three episodes.

For the next two days, I'll bring you the Western couples. Today, I give you Number Two -
From Doctor Who - Rory/Amy.

But, I did love the Amy/Rory relationship, the Eleven/Amy friendship, and the awesomeness that is Eleven, Amy,and Rory's Team TARDIS. So, I return to DW videos with this. Please enjoy and remember feedback is golden!

Aw, how cute! The official Doctor Who website has uploaded ten photos of Rory and Amy's wedding photos. You can find them here . The photos of are Rory and Amy in their wedding clothes with a couple of Doctor cameos. My favorites are the first in group seven, number four, number two, and number one. It looks like the cast had a lot of fun with this photo shoot.

Anyway, just thought I'd share. Enjoy.
walkwithheroes: [The Princess Bride] ([DW] First Love)
My brief thought is this: Maybe Moffat can plot a series? I still think he has issues with continuity and character development, but now some of my unanswered questions make sense. It is very much a fairy tale ending; maybe it's even a bit corny. And, did anyone else get a Tim Burton-ish feeling during the first six minutes and then the last ten minutes? Or was that just me.

Overall, I have to say that this new series was very hit-or-miss for me. I do think there were more bad or meh type episodes than really excellent episodes for S5, but I did love the chemistry between Matt and Karen - very much a best friend with slight UST type thing. Rory/Amy are so my OTP of the new Doctor who (aside from Doctor/Rose), because. . .come on! he did so much for her.

I think that S6 will need some of the kinks worked out. I'm also hoping that Rory will be a full-time Companion. He cannot die again!
walkwithheroes: [The Princess Bride] ([DW] Mister Cool)
I'm watching Doctor Who's fifth series. Or rather catching up on the series. I have to admit that this series has been very uneven in the writing and almost nonexistent in the character development department. The truth is Steven Moffat is a genius at making scary monsters and great/fun episodes - The Doctor Dances, Blink, etc - but he's really lacking in making his characters, well, human. At least for more than an episode.

I think the last episode I spoke about was Flesh and Stone or Vampires in Venice. I will say that I thought Flesh and Stone was really well done and River Song was slightly less annoying than usual. However, the only saving graces of Vampires in Venice were Rory and a few quotable lines from the Doctor.

There have been six episodes since then, and my goodness is this series going fast! Spoiler-filled thoughts ahead. And, yes, I still really dislike River Song and still think Steven Moffat is bad at long character development.

Oh, my boys, my poncho boys )
walkwithheroes: [The Princess Bride] ([DW] I am the Bad Wolf)
I caught up with the last two episodes of Doctor Who today. I have to admit to really loving Flesh and Stone, but being slightly underwhelmed by The Vampires of Venice.

I'm not saying that The Vampires of Venice was bad, because it wasn't. In fact, it had some really great one-liners and had some nice insights into the Doctor and his relationships with his Companions. The thing was the episode was, well, boring. Flesh and Stone had a lot going on and was very much an 'edge of your seat' type episode - lots of drama. To go from that much drama to something more low-key was just jarring.

more spoiler-filled thoughts )
walkwithheroes: [The Princess Bride] ([DW] Oncoming Storm)
I just watched the fourth episode of the fifth series and I have some thoughts.

The weeping angels scare me )

The story was awesomely creepy and I love it. My one compliant really is the River Song character. She's just the hugest Mary-Sue ever! I find her totally annoying.
walkwithheroes: [The Princess Bride] ([DW] I am the Bad Wolf)
I watched episode 5.03 of Doctor Who today. I have to say that I'm not really feeling this series. It's like it's lost some of that magic. Or maybe it is Steve Moffat - he's great at the creepy episodes where the Doctor loses his companion and hooks-up with the "girl of the episode" (Girl in the Fireplace, Blink, Silence in the Library, Forest of the Dead) and he's great at quick and funny interactions between characters (The Empty Child and The Doctor Dances), but he seems to not be able to do just plain old 'monster of the week' type episodes. This makes me believe that he's also not great at planning them, either.

5.01, The Eleventh Hour was very jarring and just so out there and everywhere. 5.02, The Beast Below had more holes in it than Swiss Cheese. Now, we have 5.03 - Victory of the Daleks. Yup, they are back, again. Mark Gatiss wrote this episode, as well as The Unquiet Dead (1.03) and The Idiot's Lantern (2.07). Both were good episodes, though The Unquiet Dead was more solid. So, we know Gatiss isn't a horrible writer. In fact 5.03 had some really great one-liners and some nice interaction between the Doctor and Amy (it's cute that he calls her 'Pond' now and again.)

Honestly, I think this season was rushed. Therefore, it was poorly planned. I remember reading an article with Moffat that stated that the series had already finished filming; usually they still have four or more episodes to film when the series starts - I think. I just remember reading that they had been very rushed with this series.

At the end of the day - I just think the Eleventh Doctor doesn't have that magic that the others have had. Matt Smith is a fine actor. And yet, the Doctor comes across as someone unlikeable at times. Not that that's a bad thing, but it makes the Doctor seem less like himself. There are moments where I feel like I'm watching some new guy whose picked up the TARDIS.

I have some new icons to share. I've been spending a lot of time messing about with coloring and effects, and so far. . . I've gotten some good things and I've gotten some icons that make me think 'WTF?' Despite all that, I do think I am slowly improving. Just don't ask me about brushes. I still don't understand that bit. :/

Anyway. . . I found some really HQ caps for Doctor Who and decided that (since I'm really getting back into the fandom) I should do a few icons from Stolen Earth. And, in order of The Sarah Conner Chronicles being reran on Fox, I did a few from the first season finale. Finally, because I just love the show - I put together some Strawberry on the Shortcake icons, too.

It's like they actually try and cast well )

Lastly, I'm in the market for a new notebook computer, but I'm not sure what I want to go with. My parents are pushing a DELL, while others are saying a HP or Sony is a good choice - if only for pretty colors and cool graphic programs, and finally there is the Mac. I fear Windows Vista, but . . . I do think a DELL, HP, or Sony might be the best choice. While, I'm sure a Mac is better in terms of not getting infected with malware and useful programs, the cost is up there. Plus, for the price do you really get a lot? If you spend $2,587 for a DELL, you do get tons on bonus programs. And, I like the looks of HP and Sony. So . . . if anyone has any thoughts I'd be grateful.

I hate Windows Movie Maker. I understand that its true purpose is to edit little home movies. But, must it freeze and have to close due to errors all the time? If a video is longer than three minutes, it's Error Message City. And, don't even get me started on how long it takes to upload episodes into the damn thing!

The main reason I'm ranting, is because I have several videos planned for the upcoming months. I don't know if I want to make them, if it'll take a whole day to upload videos and than hours upon hours to make the videos. The main problem is: when I start a video, it takes about two hours. 'Cause when I get started, I roll. But, having to stop and start again...AH!

Does anyone know of another easy to use, free video maker?

As for the videos I have planned:

Tatta Hitotsu no Koi:

How to Save a Life by The Fray. Again, it's been done. But, when I listened to it the other day, it screamed: That's Hiroto's life!

Battle Royale:

In Loving Memory... by So They Say. It'll be a movie-vid, focusing in on the main characters. (Side note: I need the mp3 for this one. Anybody have it?)

Doctor Who:

Suddenly I See by K.T. Tunstall. A Doctor/Rose video, using clips from S1 and early S2. Mainly, it's the Doctor's view on Rose.

Personal Jesus by Depeche Mode. It's about the Doctor and the way everyone sees him. Also, it'll focus on the way the Doctor sees others. I'll be using late S1 clips and S2 clips.

How It Ends by (The) Devotchkos. A character study video of Rose during S1 and S2.

I also really want to use Depeche Mode's Precious, I think it could fit in any of my fandoms. Maybe I'll make it into a project. I'll use Precious for my 'angst' vid in all my fandoms! (Ow. I can already feel the headache.)

Oh, I'll be gone from the 31-7, so if I don't answer your comments, don't feel bad. I'll do so when I get back.

And before I forget: I bring one more My Lucky Star Vid:

Title: Precious (Angst)
Song: Precious by Depeche Mode
Details: 3:58 min, 15.84MB, WMV
Theme: Just good old TQ/AX angst. ANGST! (Mm... angsty.)
Notes I used episodes 8-20 (more or less; it was actually more like 8-11 & 13-19) So, there are spoilers. And sadly... those darn suns.
