walkwithheroes: [The Princess Bride] ([DW] That Kiss)
[personal profile] walkwithheroes
I've decided that 2010 was a great year for couples, OTPs, ships, whatever you wish to call them. I've made two different lists: one for Western Television and one for Asian Dramas. In order to make the list couples had to have certain things:

01. I had to have watched the series in 2010/it had to have aired in 2010.
02. They had to have been a couple or have had UST/potential couple-dom in the future.
03. I had to have loved them and wanted them to be together. (I had to want them to be together; not just liked them because they were the show's couple)
04. They had to have been together as a couple/potential couple for at least three episodes.

For the next five days, I'll bring you the Western couples. Today, I give you Number Five -
From Doctor Who - Ten(Ten2)/Rose Tyler.

Why Them: Now, I'll grant you that Rose only appeared at the end of the last Special, but I didn't see Ten's last special until February of this year. That last moment - Ten sees her last - where he sees her a few months before she meets Nine. . .it's so sad and yet so beautifully done. Ten (Ten 2) and Rose are just the best. They have a sexual tension, but also a sweetness and an easy way about them. The thing I always loved about Ten/Rose was the easy way they interacted, their fun, their cuteness, they were happy together. Rose had made Nine less dark (Yes, I loved them too), and with Ten she kept him from sinking into that depression that was always threatening to overtake him. They were a perfect couple, because while they were cute, they always had that underlying sadness - she would die and he wouldn't. He could leave her, etc. Still, they were wonderfully awesome.

Rose: What are you going to do?
The Doctor: Back to the TARDIS. Same old life.
Rose: On your own?
The Doctor: Yes.
Rose: I— ...I love you.
The Doctor: Quite right too. [pause] And I suppose, if it's my last chance to say it: Rose Tyler...

Human Doctor: I look like him, I think like him, same memory, same thoughts, same everything; except I've only got one heart.
Rose: Which means?
Human Doctor: I'm part human. Specifically the ageing part, I'll grow old and never regenerate. I've only got one life, Rose Tyler. I could spend it with you, if you want.
Rose: You'll grow old at the same time as me.
Human Doctor: Together.
The Doctor: We've got to go. This reality is sealing itself off, forever.
Rose: But, it's still not right, 'cause the Doctor is still you.
The Doctor: And I'm him.
Rose: Alright, both of you, answer me this. When I last stood on this beach, on the worst day of my life, what was the last thing you said to me? Go on, say it.
The Doctor: I said "Rose Tyler".
Rose: Yeah? ...And how was that sentence gonna end?
The Doctor: Does it need saying?
Rose: New Doctor, what was the end of that sentence?
[The Human Doctor whispers something in her ear, presumably "I love you". Rose pauses briefly, then kisses him, allowing Donna and the "real" Doctor to slip away unnoticed into the TARDIS. As Rose realizes, she turns to watch them go sadly. The Human Doctor stands beside her and they hold hands.]

Best Moments: The last moment. Ten sees her for the last time; she sees him for the first. Him telling her she'll have a great year. Her smiling at him. . .it broke my heart in so many ways. But, was lovely, because she was the last person he wanted to see before regenerating.

The kiss between Ten2/Rose. He tells her he loves her. They finally kiss. The only sad thing was that Ten looks so heartbroken as he and Donna walk away.

[The Doctor gets shot. Rose keeps running towards him. Jack appears and shoots the Dalek]
Rose: [cradling the Doctor] I've got you. I missed you. Look, it's me, Doctor!
Doctor: [weakened and in pain] Rose! Long time, no see.
Rose: Yeah, well, I've been busy, you know...
[The Doctor gasps with pain and begins to lose consciousness]
Rose: [crying] Don't die! Oh, my God, don't die! Oh my God, don't die!

Rose: That was our first date.
The Doctor: We had chips. [Rose chuckles] So anyway, planet gone. All rocks and dust, but the human race lives on spread out across the stars. Soon as the Earth burns up, ooh, they get all nostalgic, big revival movement. They find this place. Same size as the Earth. Same air, same orbit. Lovely. The call goes out, the humans move in.
Rose: What's the city called?
The Doctor: New New York.
Rose: Oh, come on.
The Doctor: It is! It's the city of New New York! Strictly speaking, it's the fifteenth New York since the original, so that makes it New-New-New-New-New-New-New-New-New-New-New-New-New-New-New New York. [Rose laughs] What?
Rose: You're so different.
The Doctor: New-New Doctor.

Angst Factor: He's a Time Lord. She's human. He loses her in a parallel world. He angsts for two seasons. He gets her back, then loses her again - to himself. At least Ten2/Rose get a happy ending. Here's hoping they are okay together in Pete's World.

Happiness Factor: Ten/Rose were adorkable together. Ten2/Rose get a happy ending. 'Nuff said.

Tomorrow, Number 4.
