Author’s Note:

Let me start off by saying I hate song fics that have the song in the fic. I don’t mind fics being based on songs, but having the lyrics pop up in the fic bugs me. That said, I’ve written a fic just like the ones I hate. See, I’ve been listening to this song, “Life Less Ordinary” by Carbon Leaf and, well, it so goes with tons of my ‘ships! So, I decided to ‘experiment’ and decided to use the ‘Firefly/Serenity’ ‘verse to do it in. Eighteen short drabbles/ficlets using one song!

Everything ends how it began, and everything is just the beginning.




Opening Monologue:

Here’s how it is, Earth got used up and we found a whole new ‘verse with hundreds of new Earths. These Earths were terra formed and colonized, a process taking years. The Earths were all different, some rich and flush with the new technologies, some not so much. The Central planets thems formed the Alliance, decided that everyone should be under their rule. There was some disagreement on that part and war got waged; a few idiots tried to fight it, among them my father. After the war, Independents drifted to the edges of the system, as far way from Alliance control as they could get. ‘Course that brought ‘em to Reaver space.

Years later, it came to light that the Alliance made Reavers. There was some anger ‘bout that. War was waged and the Alliance won, again. They’re doin’ their sins again, forcing us children of Independents to drifted even farther to the edges of the system. Out here, people struggle to get by with the most basic of technologies.

A ship will bring you work, a gun will help you keep it. My name’s Shadow Reynolds, captain of Serenity. She's a transport ship, Firefly class. Got a good crew: fighters, pilot, mechanic, doctor. We even got a bona fide companion, for some reason. There’s a psychic too, girl got taken out of some Alliance camp, so she’s keeping a low profile. You understand. You got a job, we can do it. Don't much care what it is.
