John’s not an idiot, he’s noticed the similarities. The same initials, the same unusual birth, the mother that’s treated like a saint.

Beside the initials and parental thing, there are the issues of the girl and the Apostles.

The girl, mysterious and full of secrets; she’s someone that’s past will never be fully understand, and everyone will try and make her appear worst than she really was. If John’s counterpart had Mary Magdalene, John has Cameron.

Instead of twelve Apostles, John has six. He supposes things must change with the times; besides, his Magdalene is a cyborg.

Derek is John’s most trusted friend, and his second in command.
He’s often told Derek that if anything happens, the other man must lead in his place.

Ellison is John’s man of faith. Even as the world falls apart, Ellison keeps his head and the word of God. The others have taken to calling the older man ‘Father’.

Morris. Back when they first met, John never believed Morris would become much. And yet, he’s John’s third man. He’s a wizard with the machines, and John thanks him every day for saving Cameron.

Junia was born into the world of machines and terror. According to the girl, she was born exactly two months after Judgment Day. John and the Reese brothers freed her from a camp when she was ten. They couldn’t save her parents. Maybe that’s why she’s so damn loyal to him and Derek.

Finally, there’s Kang and Shil. John can’t think of them as two different people, because they’ve always been together. They were once in a camp, but it wasn’t like the camp John or Junia had been in. In their camp, they had been used for hunting practice by the machines. Because of this, Kang must always be close to or touching Shil, and for her part she lets him. She tells John she likes it, because it lets her know she’s not alone.

John’s closet people . . . they’re all so broken and unsure. When John watches them, he wonders why they have all chosen to follow him. Why do they put their undying faith and loyalty onto a man, who’s just a man? But mostly, mostly . . . he wonders which one will betray him with a kiss.
