Alternates : Chapter 15 (find the rest of the story in my memories) should be beta'ed and up no later than Thursday. My brand new shiny beta said it would be done today, but I haven't gotten an email. So, I'll give it a couple of days before I start to think that evil Yahoo ate my beta's email.    When I checked my email a hour ago, I saw the newly beta'ed chapter. It'll be up tonight!

It felt good to work on the story again, and I found myself making a few changes for the better. When I started the story I knew that not everyone was going to get a happy ending. And yet...looking over the plans for the next nine chapters, it looks like nobody will end up 100% happy. I don't want to get too spoilery...but, I seem to be going the J.K. Rowling route. And no, I don't mean that Rose, Ianto, and Levi will spend their next two chapters hanging around the forest like some dopes. I'm becoming quite evil with my characters, I think.

Now that Alternates is near it's end (or at least I've planned it all), I've been thinking about my next large fic. Alternates will be the first long-term fic I'll finish, so I'm kind of excited to start something else. Maybe a second part to the series? Maybe a series about the missing Torchwood Four? I'm not sure, but I'd love to hear from everyone about that.

And, on a total random note: I think I may do a series/episode by episode review of My Lucky Star. It's by far the best Twdrama I've seen. Plus, I kind of want an excuse to watch all twenty episodes again.

Also, I re watched some of Tatta hitotsu no koi this morning. I have to say that I adore that show, despite (or maybe because of) all the sappy cliches and the skinny, skinny, male lead. As I said on [profile] mysticblueside 's journal:

I don't remember why I started watching this show, but I walked away with a new favorite. Your post has some great reasons to love this show, but there are more. The characters seem very real and they go through their emotions in a way that any twenty year old would. Unlike a lot of romances, the characters think about the afterward. They know they're twenty and the love you have at twenty isn't always the love you have for the rest of your life. A great example of this is when Hiroto and Nao are on the ferry/boat and discuss why they couldn't run away together.

Plus: all five members of the main cast have awesome chemistry with one another. And, I love the giggle/laugh out loud moments when they're together.

Something else: the cliches are done in interesting and refreshing ways:

Take for example, Yuuko (Erika Toda) and Kou (Koki Tanaka)'s relationship. Yuuko starts out being utterly grossed out by Kou, but ends up falling for him. Why? Because he's sweet and real with her. Is it cliche? Yeah. But, somehow it works here. Maybe, because Yuuko messes up a bit when it comes to Kou. He's great, but that doesn't mean she'll suddenly want to introduce him to her rich and good-looking friends.

And really, Hiroto and Nao's story is one huge cliche. Rich girl/poor boy. (Almost creepy) Over-protective older brother. Illness. Totally innocent/naive girl/boy whose had a hard life. All cliches. But somehow, and it may be due largely to the chemistry between Kame and Ayase, it works. From episode two you're rooting for Hiroto and Nao. They just seem so open and honest with one another. They're happy together, and they see themselves being together forever. The relationship is clumsy, awkward, sweet, even funny; it's everyone's first love put on the little screen.

This show is sappy and full of cliches. It's manipulative and there are moments that make you think: 'Wait...what?', but so's life. One moment you're laughing with your friends (and this show has some laugh out loud moments), the next you're doing something totally stupid to impress a girl/guy, and the next your in love; I think I just explained the first episode.

Ayase and skinny, skinny, eat a sandwich,  Kame make Hiroto and Nao the sweetest couple ever. You root for them until the last moment. And when it's over, you wish you could stay with them just a bit longer.

Could vids for these two show be on the way...?

Oh, yes, TattaKoi, otherwise known as the drama that devoured my soul for an entire season. My general adoration for these characters is actually fairly well documented, as I found myself recapping every single episode, as it was airing. And I know it's the most emotionally manipulative show, with cliche after cliche, but I love it so terribly much, because I argue it's every cliche I love about a romance drama done right. On a totally superficial level, I have to say that I really like the Kame/Ayase aesthetic, which sort of mirrors the dichotomy between Nao and Hiroto. He's all angular and sharp, and she's softer somehow, and it's just insanely pretty.

I'll await them with bated breath! :)

Oh... this show killed me. But, when I watched it I didn't think it was popular. I watched it via crunchyroll (before I dl'ed it), and the comments were sometimes less than kind. Why didn't I realize that this show had a following earlier? I must go read your recaps after I type this.

Oh, yes! Kame and Ayase are so pretty together. Not only do they look nice, they have some really lovely romantic chemistry.

I agree, Kame/Hiroto is very angular and seems slightly unkept. While Ayase/Nao just seems soft and well looked after. In some ways, that just makes them fit together even more.

Great writeup on what exactly Tatta Hitotsu no Koi is. Perfect timing as well, as I was planning on rewatching maybe an episode or two. :)

Tatta Hitotsu no Koi bombed in Japan, airing with mediocre ratings and understandably so as it was somewhat dated in plot. I know that I was disappointed with it on the first watch through as I had been expecting so much more from it. However, if you go in expecting nothing from it, Tatta Hitotsu no Koi is a solid drama I think. I was hoping for something dark and depressing (I loved episode nine, but ten crushed my spirit a little *giggle*), but instead got something hopeful. In that way, the emotional rollercoaster of the drama was quite honest. You can have your darkest moments, to yet have your lightest moments on the other side of that. :)

Also, like [livejournal.com profile] kitsune714, totally would love to see videos! *claps*

Thank you.

I had heard about the ratings. I guess it just goes to show that not even a wonderful cast and writer can save a show if people think the theme is 'dated'. BTW: is it true that the show was going to be 11 or 12 episodes, but they cut the order due to the poor ratings?

I went in expecting nothing, which is why I think I love the show so much. I didn't really know the actors (I'd see Erika and Kame in Nobuta wo Produce and that was it), and I had no clue who the writer was. So, I took the show at face value. A dated theme, yes. But, it's still a sweet story.

Same here. And yes, I love episode nine too. As for episode ten...I was okay with the hopeful vibe. Around episode five I became determained that Nao and Hiroto would end up together. It was just too much of a roller coaster ride for them to end up apart.

I want to make a video, but I have to load all the episodes back on my computer. And... oh yeah, find a song.
