Summary: Nobuta and Akira share a moment; Nobuta gets it.
Akira loved watching Nobuta's fingers skip along the keys of the piano.
During high school, he had had no idea that she was musical in anyway. So, it was rather surprising when she started playing one day.
They had been standing around Akira's large apartment, when Nobuta wondered off to the baby grand in the corner. Awkwardly – there was no other way for Nobuta – the young girl touched a few keys. The corners of her lips turned up into a half-smile.
“Nobuta likes it?” Akira questioned, happy that she liked something in his home.
With a bounce in his step, he moved over to stand beside her. “Do you want to play?” Without waiting for an answer, he gently guided her the piano bench and softly pushed her down on it. “Do you know any songs?”
Keeping her head down, Nobuta nodded shortly. She ran her fingers over the keys, before she began playing a song that Akira didn't know.
With a nod of his head, Akira questioned Nobuta on the song, “Nobuta's playing . . . ?” he let the question hang in the air, wanting Nobuta to fill in the blanks; he loved with Nobuta completed his thoughts.
“Rhapsody in Blue.” She didn't even look up from the keys of the piano. She just kept playing, letting the song fill her heart.
Watching her, Akira felt the corners of his lips tuck up into a small smile. “Ah!”
Out of the corner of her eye, Nobuta watched Akira disappear into the kitchen, only to come back a moment later. In his hands was a large white bowl, which he set down beside Nobuta.
“Berries in blue.” With a grin, Akira began laughing loudly at his own stupid joke.
Nobuta glanced down at the bowl full of berries, to Akira, and back to the bowl. Somehow, she didn't get the joke.
“Blueberries.” Akira stated in all seriousness. “Here.” Casually, he took a blueberry from the bowl and feed it to the object of his affections.
Nobuta sat still for a long moment, silently taking everything in. Locking eyes with Akira she noticed the intensity in which he was staring at her. After a long pause, she turned her attention back to the piano and began playing a new piece.
“What . . . ?”
One side of her mouth tucking up into a strange smile, Nobuta simply answered: “Blueberries for Nobuta.” Slowly, she let her gaze slip over to Akira. “It's a love song.”
There was a pause, before Akira nodded. “Yes, it is.” Another pause, which was followed by his pursing his lips. “Is it a happy song?”
Her gaze firmly fixed on the piano keys, Nobuta gave a sharp nod. Akira grinned widely. “Best kind.”
Quite happily, Akira moved the bowl from the piano seat and carefully took its place next to his Nobuta. He placed his fingers on the keys, and as if they had placed the song a hundred times before, they began playing Blueberries for Nobuta together.
