Harry Potter...it's over, over.
Jul. 25th, 2007 09:17 pmI finished Deathly Hallows on Tuesday night. I had started in Sunday afternoon and read a bit everyday, because I have things to do and can't sit around for six hours reading Harry Potter. It was an emotional rollarcoster of a book, but overall it was a nice ending to the series.
I've always said that J.K. Rowling is a good children/young adult writer, but I'm not sure if she could write more "mature" fiction. I think it is because I often find more of her romantic scenes flat and a little over the top. [Side note: that's why I love HBP- Harry's love/teenage lust for Ginny makes me giggle.] However, she did well with the action (and there was a lot of action) scenes. J.K.'s also rather good with the emotion-filled moments. Looking back, J.K.'s really matured as a writer and her characters are very real.

Just a few thoughts about the novel as a whole:
The Best Things Ever!:
-Molly Weasley screaming out: "NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU BITCH!" to Bellatrix. Mrs. W's beyond awesome.
-Neville. Anything that boy did in this novel was pure gold.
-Snape's whole 'triple agent' thing. Now, I've know two things since forever ago: Snape's a good guy and he was/is in love with Lily. That's been a given forever. Though, it became so clear way back in OotP. Nice to see it confirmed.
-Regulus as R.A.B. Yes, I (and everyone else) figured that bit out ages ago. But, it was nice to see how that came about.
-Ron and Hermione finally kiss, though at the worst time possible.
So Could Have Been Better:
-Draco's storyline. Honestly, I thought it would shape up in a different way: Draco seeing his errors, etc. Instead, the boy just learned that he's really bad at being evil. Very disappointed with that bit.
-That epilogue! It was just so..so cheesy and fluffy and cute! I'm all for happy endings, but....dear God!
-Voldemort. He just didn't seem that threatening. I think he had the Death Eaters do everything, so he could sit around and catch up on Eastenders.
