It was an awfully big adventure...

I think it must be said that I don't get sick very often. Actually, I get sick once a year or maybe once every couple of years. And then it is for never more then a week. On May 23, I woke up with back pain. It was in my lower back and upper right side, just under the shoulder blade. There was also a shooting pain in my right side. I spent the whole day in pain, crying and wanting to go to the doctor. On May 24, I woke up with hardly any back pain, but with really awful pain in my right side and all through my lower stomach. It was just this really bad pain that made me want to die. I begged to go to the doctor, but no one would take me. (They didn't want to wait in the ER all day.) I ate a little something at 8:30 p.m. and felt oddly better. On May 25, I woke up at 6:00 a.m. and threw up what I had eaten the night before. I then threw up water. I had some apple juice at 7:00 a.m. and threw that up ten minutes later. By 9:00 a.m. I was at my doctor's office. I spent the next six hours sitting around, getting examed by two doctors, peeing in a cup, getting blood work, doing tests, sitting around, and getting looked at by another doctor. It took them six hours to figure out that I was "one sick puppy". Oh, I looked fine, but it seemed I was following apart on the inside. I had...gallstones in the ducts and one was causing everything to go up, with had caused me to have pancreatitis, with was causing an infection to spread to my liver. Ew. So, the doctors decided to stick me in the hospital. First, they'd remove the gallstones, then the gallbladder, and then they'd see to the pancreatitis. It didn't really go down that way. You see, I spent the rest of Thursday and all Friday morning laying in my hospital bed. They were curing the pancreatitis, but they were waiting to remove the gallstones. Meanwhile, I apparently passed one. (Yay me!) Friday afternoon, around two. I go in to get the gallstones removed. It doesn't take long and it goes well. At five, they come to take my gallbladder out. I wake up several hours later and freak. You see, I woke up in pain and it felt like my right shoulder blade and my heart were being torn out of me. They gave me meds and I went back to sleep. I woke up on and off that night. Saturday morning, 9:00 a.m., I wake up. I'm in pain and my three doctors (one that removed the gallbladder and then two that removed the gallstones) come see me. Now, I'm not up for company. But, they want to check out my 'five holes', so I let them go for it. I feel and look like crap, I haven't eaten since Wednesday night, I haven't been allowed to bathe in two days, and I haven't brushed. I'm basically really gross. All three tell me I can leave. By two p.m., they've kicked me out of the room. I arrive home and head for the shower. I take a shower and change into my own clothing. I then take some pills and sleep. I wake up at ten p.m. and eat pudding, sit around for a hour, and then go back to sleep. Sunday-Tuesday, are basically the same. I eat and sleep and sit around in my PJs. On Wednesday, I felt really good and ate a sandwich! And today? Today, I actually left the house. I'm feeling really good, though there is some pain. The five laser hole things look kind of gross, but they are healing. I'm okay, but I did have a big adventure last week.

Just a word to the wise, be carful what you eat now. Greasey foods can make you really sick. Make sure to check w/your dtr about food restrictions/limitations etc.

Date: 2006-06-02 03:38 pm (UTC)Oh, I've been careful. My doctor told me nothing about food restrictions, so I decided on my own based on info that I found out. It's been a week today, so I'm still on the restrictions, but I'm slowly going back to normal. No greasy or fatty foods until after I go for my check up next Friday, though.
Thanks for thinking of me, btw.
