Strange Hero Yi Zhi Mei is beyond addictive! With these four episodes, we end the flashback arc and start the final arc of the series.
As I said in my last post, the flashback arc was mostly to give more (and maybe much needed) character development to Ying Wu Qiu and Ru Yi; and even more development to Tutor and Ge Xiao. After watching it all, I can say I do feel slightly sorry for Wu Qiu, because he basically went insane due to his own personal demons. And, Ru Yi - yes, she's loyal and brave and sweet. . .but, that's about it. I just think it's too late for me to truly love her as a character. That said, she was a cool lady and I feel awful about the way she died. (Also, I think she and San Niang could have been friends in another life.
Episodes twenty-five and twenty-six moved us into the last arc of the series. The stakes are up, as Yi Zhi Mei goes up against someone whose just as smart and cunning as Ge Xiao. This is an arc that changes everything, and really focuses on the foursome, their relationships, and the possible future romance of Ge Xiao/San Niang.
- I think with these episodes, it was the first time that Yi Zhi Mei were at a lost. I mean, technically, they did lose to the bad guys in these two episodes. Xiao Mei has been hurt; San Niang has been stabbed and taken away; Hu was temporarily blinded; and Ge Xiao was also stabbed.
- I love love that San Niang saved Ge Xiao. She pushes him out a window, and allows herself to be captured.
- I love that both Hu and Xiao Mei were so ready to go and save San Niang, because she's their family (sister) and they just aren't Yi Zhi Mei without her.
- Finally, Ge Xiao wakes up and realizes he's in love with/has deep feelings for San Niang - just as she pushes him out a window.
- The bad guy for the final arc? The son of Mr. Yan. He hates Ge Xiao and he's super intelligent. He's beyond evil, and I love that, at the end, Ge Xiao is basically trying to defeat himself.
- People being set on fire? Really reminds me of American detective shows. But, really glad - again - that the supernatural stuff has a scientific answer.
- San Niang, alone in her cell and bleeding from her stab wound, while hallucinating Ge Xiao? Heartbreaking!
As always - this show is brilliant! I can't wait to watch episodes 27-30. And, when it is all over, I'll miss is so much. I really wish that second season/film rumor was true. With the same cast, of course.
