walkwithheroes: [The Princess Bride] ([Battle Royale] Together in Death)
[personal profile] walkwithheroes
I'm taking a Sociology class this semester and I've decided to work on a project for extra points. I want to put together some clips about death and loss (divorce, a breakup, loss of innocence, etc) and I was wondering if you guys had any ideas. I want the clips to be from around the world. So far I've decided to use clips from Doctor Who - Nine's regeneration into Ten and Ten's into Eleven; clips from the Buffy episode "The Body";clips from the J-film Battle Royale; clips from the J-drama Crying Out Love at the Center. . .; Aki's mom's speech from Soredemo, Ikite Yuku - as well as a couple of other speeches from that drama; and maybe a few other shows. But, I'm having trouble thinking of things that realistically deal with a death or a loss of some kind.

Any ideas? And, it is around the world. ..so, any country - so long as I could find the clips.

How about the deaths in Long Love Letter, or the one in Futatsu no Spica? The death of Mi Suk in Can You Hear My Heart was heartbreaking, too.

I think the deaths in LLL and FnS might need to much explanation. Like, where the characters are and what is going on. But, I think I'll use Mi Suk's death scene - and it's aftermath in the hospital - for the project.

Thanks for the ideas!

I finished, sort of. I just read recaps of the last five episodes, because I got bored/busy. It was pretty good. I never really cared one way or the other about the OTP, but they got a happy ending. So did Joon Ha; he was "redeemed". But, I still say half the cast was wasted.

Ahhhhhh. I still have three episodes to watch but near the end I kind of wanted everyone to jump off a cliff, except for like. Young Gyu, Dong Joo, and the Grandma. >_____>

Same here. . .those characters got annoying. Expect I was also for Joon Ha/Ma Roo - couldn't help it.

one of my favorites that deal with this is the code blue drama special ending with yamapi's voiceover about loss and death and how doctors sort of "deal" with that. i dunno if it'll work for you, but that's the one that stands out in my mind right away.

Oh! I totally forgot about Code Blue. Yes, that speech would totally work! Thanks for the reminder.

I second boycottbanana's suggestion of something from Long Love Letter -those are pretty intense.

I wonder if news clips of natural disasters would be too depressing? That would fit more of the 'in the world' context.

1 Liter of Tears, where a girl has to deal with the fact that she's got a terminal illness? Granted, she lives for ten years with it, but it's still heartbreaking.

Also, if you can find it, Boku no Ikiru Michi, where the guy has stomach cancer, or Silence, which is the same deal.

I would say Gloomy Salad Days, but it seems to deal more with the problems teens face rather than the deaths that come from it.

Yeah, I still remember some of the speeches from 1LoT. D:

How about Sailor Fuku to Kikanjuu? Lots of different responses to death in that one, from "it's not fair" to "they would want us to move on."

Loss Time Life and Shinigami no Ballad are all about accepting death when you know it's coming.

Sailor Fuku to Kikanjuu would totally work. Thanks for reminding me the show exists.

I'm going to use a couple of the speeches from 1LoT.

Talking about it has made me want to watch it again, though I'm not sure my heart can take it. D:

You know, 1 Liter of Tears - I cried from the end of the first episode until the ending credits of the finale episode. I think there are a couple of scenes I can use. Because, the loss of her abilities - walking, speech, etc - would also cover what I'm doing. Thanks for the reminder.
