Being Human: 3.01 (Lia) Thoughts

Being Human isn't a show that's for everyone. It can get a bit overdramantic at times, and it has a British humor to it that may not be to everyones' liking. And yet, the characters are complicated (vampire standing in as the sex-addict; werewolf = anger issues; ghost = Agoraphobia), the mythology of the show is shaping up nicely, and the actors have chemistry to spare. Basically: it's a good show, but it isn't for everyone. Even in the U.K., it's on the verge of being popular, but its still more of a 'cult classic'/'too cool for most' type drama.
Last night, the third series (season) begin. It started a while after the second series (season) ended: Mitchell, George, and Nina have fled to Wales. They now live in an old inn, and are trying to stay under the radar. George and Nina have taken jobs at the hospital, and are slowly moving on. Mitchell's become obsessed with getting Annie back from Purgatory.
The episode basically has three plots, each setting up for the bigger threads of this year:
- Mitchell gets into Purgatory, is faced two victims, as well as with 12 of the Box Tunnel 20, and is told something rather disturbing.
- George sees someone he believes is a werewolf.
- There is a werewolf 'fight club', in which werewolves are taken off the streets by vampires and forced to transform in a cage: with a helpless human. We meet one of those werewolves and his son: and they aren't fond of vampires at all.
At the end of the episode, everything appears to be more or less calm: Annie's home; George and Nina are happy and okay; Mitchell's there. . .and still being haunted by the Box Tunnel 20. Oh, and the werewolf from the fight club is free again.
Episode One: 8/10.
The season should be a very interesting one:
Werewolves are coming into the stories more, and we're going to be introduced to a few more "unusual" (re: supernatural) types. The relationships within the house are changing, but not necessarily for the better. The idea of werewolf packs is being explored later in the series (season); should be cool, as we've only seen werewolves as solo types (expect for Tully, who wanted a friend and George and Nina, who are a couple) up until now. Also - Mitchell and Annie may finally get on the clue bus!
