- We have achieved jealously! MK is so jealous he doesn't know what to do with himself. He's so angry that he's yelling at people and losing his cool. I find it oddly sexy. And that ending! I'm so glad we don't have to wait until week to find out what happens next.
In other news: all three parents piss me off. MK's mom is immature and selfish. MR's dad is immature and an idiot. JI's dad is creepy and emotionally/mentally abusive. It makes me wonder about SJ's parents.
After six episodes, I've decided the show's strength is the MK/MR stuff. I love that in any other drama, JI would be the Hero - with his aloofness and coldness and richness. And MK would be the artist/musician Bohemian Secondary Lead; the guy MR would lean on, but ultimately dump/break his heart. But not here! Here it's the other way around. I love that! I was thinking about something have feelings for JI. This was said in the character descriptions. Honestly, I think if she does start to have feelings for him it'll be for two reasons: a) she feels sorry for him. It's clear he's dad is creepy and demanding and b) he's the perfect K-drama Hero and MR sometimes confuses reality with her love of the Drama. She may think he's for her because he's following all the rich, cold-hearted-in-need-of-poor-plucky-girl-to-melt-it guy cliches with her: the makeover, the job, etc; but, she'll see that the Heroes in Dramas don't really make for good husbands in real life. Because, honestly, you may love and root for Min-woo or Kang Suk or Joo Won or In Soo or whoever - but, would you really want to deal with their issues and BS for the rest of your life? Would you want to attend their therapy sessions and calm them down when they get too serious or upset or claustrophobic? I think not.
As for Giant - I can't believe there are only three episodes left. It's so great to know (thanks to an ann. comment) that MW/Miju are THE couple the Korean fans care about. It's no wonder the writer is milking the angst for all its worth. But, seriously, it's time for that to end. I won't go into it, as I've harped on it enough.

Date: 2010-11-30 06:21 am (UTC)I also agree that the parents in this drama are...not pleasant XD
You bring up an interesting point concerning who's going to 'get the girl.' Somehow, I always thought MR would pick MK, because of the casting and not because of the character's backgrounds. Kim Jae Wook is mighty fine...but he's not as in demand as Jang Geun Suk right now. But yes, I do like the reversal here :)
I'm having an internal battle myself -who would I pick? Logic tells me to pick MK, because he's the musician who really cares, but there's something about JI's childhood past with MR that pulls me too ^^

Date: 2010-11-30 06:41 am (UTC)With MK/MR - and this is why I 'ship them - it's very natural. They are playful, homey, and easy with each other. Yes, things are a bit uncomfortable right now because MK is discovering his feelings and MR is discovering hers. He discovers them by being cute and yet jealous; she discovers her by being nervous and unsure. They are normal, functional, cute.
It JI/MR ended up together, I'm sure a part of him would always wonder if he married her because his father told him too and because she represent a past he had forgotten. And, a part of her would always wonder if she picked him because he was a K-Drama Hero come to life and because she felt sorry for him.
I'm 1000000% team MR/MK - and that's why I'm staying away from the Mary thread at soompi; it's 70% JI/MR shippers it seems.

Date: 2010-11-30 07:19 am (UTC)You bring up a good point about her having to change to be with him. That's not good.
I'm sure a part of him would always wonder if he married her because his father told him too and because she represent a past he had forgotten.
This is so true. But, I'm still willing to ship them just so I can see the heartbreak it leaves JI when MR picks MK, which is bound to happen ;)
This might make me sound like a sadist, but I'm hoping a bit of pain will do JI some good, to open up his emotions a bit.
Wow, I'm shocked at the 70% of JI/MR shippers. I would think MR/MK appears more canon and more people would latch on XD
I'm still torn, but I'm leaning more towards MK :)

Date: 2010-11-30 09:22 pm (UTC)Sadist. I just watched episode 7 RAW, read the written preview for episode 8, and watched the preview for 8. All I can say is: MR looks so happy to be with JI. (note the sarcastic tone.)
Wow, I'm shocked at the 70% of JI/MR shippers.
It actually confuses me. But then I remember that JI is the K-drama Hero cliche. Of course people would latch onto him! Personally, I don't get it, but hey - to each their own.

Date: 2010-11-30 05:21 pm (UTC)From the preview I saw it looks like tonights ep is where the Lee brothers get some evidence on Daddy Satan. So? Maybe they'll get him out of the way so MJ/MW can happen? I don't know, at this point I'm just making up any excuse I think will work so they can get back together.

Date: 2010-11-30 08:51 pm (UTC)Its like I knew it was corrupted somewhat but was willing to cut it some slack but now I think it has taken advantage of my kindness -_- Literally I have a headache. I was holding on and on, but I no longer have the heart to endure this battle any longer.
Nothing drastic happened in today's episode -- except that (SPOILER) there was a time shift of five years, if I am not wrong, and Minwoo is still watching Mijoo from the sideline of the corridor with a newspaper in his hand. (Btws Minwoo is the one that got her the first script/movie connection with a director in the first place -- which led her debut as an actress and eventually get more famous. But of course Mijoo doesn't know any of it. Oh how horror -_-)
Really, Mr/Ms PD? Is is seriously all you could come up with? Its like the writers don't know what to do with these two characters. What started out as an amazingly cute, adorable, chemistry-full, passionate and fun couple -- is now suddenly all down to a pile of ashes.
If that's not enough, its look like Minwoo has also given up on himself becoming a better person. He's still with his company, still doing lobbying of all sorts, bribing people and etc -- following whatever his father throws at him.
Mijoo has also suddenly become a one-dimensional character. What used to be a very fun character to watch, and much loved by the audience (at least in Korea), is suddenly a character who we just see once a while and every time we do get a glance its just seeing her promoting her movie or something like that. What ever happened to Wooju? And we never get to see her fall backs on acting or being famous either. Its all like ---- "she's famous" -- that's all we get to see!
Oh and even all that isn't sad enough, after five years while Minwoo is still looking at Mijoo, it appears Mijoo has no idea about Minwoo. Whatever, I am just going to stop with these two.
Argh. Its down right aggravating. I am giving up any minuscule hope I had of these two getting together or being happy. Giant writers are messing up big time. Not just with these two but its like all the characters have stopped growing. JY is always the intelligent woman.KM the good guy. MW- the sympathizing bad guy. MJ- no comment. Wooju- A mystery- Whatever happened to JPY's wife too? Arg!
I know that you can't fit every darn character's storyline into an hour, but I think the writers have wasted way too much time doing politics in the drama and have forgotten about the life and humanistic relations it was so good at presenting at the beginning. Seriously they could have made this whole MW and MJ thing so much better. Even with angst, it could have been good.
By the ways, Minwoo still doesn't know Wooju is his son. And we have only 2 episodes left. Oh someone give me back my 58 hours of watching this darn thing!
The writers are suddenly focused on getting JPY down in the most pathetic way and have ditched all other characters. They have tied only a few strings toward that happy ending that is most evidently going to belong to only perhaps the main OTP.
I am so sorry to be ruining your blog/comment section with my rant. I just had no place to rant-- since I don't own a blog and soompi isn't a good idea since all I will get there is main OTP supporters and MJ and MW haters feeling happy with the conclusion that Giant is edging to.
I still love MJ and MW though. I love individually as a character and together as well. But for me, I am going to keep the good memories I had of them in my mind only.
Okay I need to stop before the owner of this blog decides to kick me out of cyberspace for ever. -_- Sorry for such a frustrated and enraging rant. I shall take my leave now. - sigh-

Date: 2010-11-30 10:14 pm (UTC)- So agree. If only Sangmo had been smart and put JPY in jail when he had the perfect chance back in the day when there was that whole spy issue with the American guys and Sangmo was young-- then a lot of pain could have been saved. Oh but wait, then we wouldn't have a tremendously dramatic 60 episodes to waste our precious life on!
I just can't get over the fact that I have wasted 58 hours. This should teach me not to follow a drama live -- but somehow I never learn my lesson. Ah, the rebel in me.
"Which surprises me because they are more popular than the main OTP in Korea."
The only reason we even get any MJ and MW scenes is really because they are popular, loved, and wanted in Korea. I once heard (this I heard, not seen with my own eyes) that the rating during their scenes are pretty strong. Seriously I think if it wasn't for the Korean fans fervent chant to keeping them going, we might have had MW shot out of the show -- or turned intensely evil (as he is still even till this episode hanging between the good, the bad, and the stupid).
Compared to main OTP scenes (they have quite some scene, but I'm talking about the scenes where it really is their couple moment) MW and MJ are still quite equivalent to how much airtime they get. However got to admit in this week's episode all the coupling and individual character moments have been minimized and all concentration is on 'revenge'. I shake my head in dismay.
I find the writers of Giant to be worse than JPY or as you called it Daddy Satan. At least JPY lets his enemy know he's evil. Giant writers on the other hand, gave hope, love, and some really nice presents -- but is now stabbing our back and asking to give the presents back. Urg, what a betrayer. Such a potential full drama-- just good characterization -- such amazing actors- and yet what a disastrous end it is modeling itself toward, I cannot fathom the rationality of this.
It is so nice to speak my mind somewhere. Thank you so much for not kicking me out. XP.

Date: 2010-11-30 10:24 pm (UTC)I wasted 58 hours of my life (ok, a bit less as I started FFing a lot around episode 30), but. . .I still wasted a lot of time. I think the next epic revenge drama I watch will be watched long after it airs. I can't take this kind of disappointment again.

I've read that, too. That they are the most popular couple on the show. That they are one of the most popular drama couples of the year in Korea. That really makes me wonder why they writer (there's just one) is going the way he is in terms of their storyline. I image that many fans will be angry and write some fairly nasty things to him after episode 60. I can understand angst being used to keep people tuned in, but this is just ridiculous and frustrating.

Date: 2010-11-30 07:05 pm (UTC)Out of your list of others, I think JI would make a good husband for someone as long as that someone wasn't Maeri - because with Maeri there will always be an issue if he married her for love or at daddy's prodding, and they are basically at different maturity levels like whoa (the same way I feel about Rui and Makino - wonderful people but utterly incompatible maturity levels). He's smart, reasonably adjusted and functional. He's reserved but not cripplingly so.
I think KS would make a good husband as well, because whatever his past actions, he seems very well-adjusted now. Min Woo and Joo Won are another matter.
I think I am influenced by the fact that in RL I am a hyper, cheerful extravert who fell for a very reserved guy who had some issues when we started going out, but now, after a decade together, they are not there any more due to stability and our happy relationship. He's still rather reserved but a lot more relaxed. And I never found it burdensome in the least.

Date: 2010-11-30 09:35 pm (UTC)KS would make a good husband, but he's so into his work and wanting to please his dad. But, yes, I'd probably pick him.
I watched 6 and 7 today. Let's just say: I'm MK/MR all the way. It's painfully clear their feelings are real. I can't shake the feeling that JI is wooing MR because his dad told him to. He cares for her, he opens up around her, they have fun, but. . .they aren't meant to be. I can't see them happily married in ten years. MR would have to change too much for him. I don't like that idea, because MR is awesome. (And she looked utterly miserable in 8's preview. :( )
