walkwithheroes: [The Princess Bride] ([PPrincess] Hater Please)

Today I spent 15 minutes of my 2 and a half hour break swinging (on a swing-set) in the park that is block from my university. I also ate lunch there. It was a nice break from the craziness of my day.

I bought a handbag off of Ebay and love it. But. . .it's coming un-sewn on the inside - a tiny bit is coming undone on the left side. I believe it's just defective, and I'm not bothering to return it (I only planned to use it in December), but it still makes me a bit sad. Still, I only paid $25, so it's not a huge loss. (I'll just bring my lunch everyday this month and break even - college food is freakishly expensive)

I watched Mary Stayed Out All Night RAW tonight, and I really really enjoyed it. I didn't love it, but I had a good time with it. The leads have brilliant chemistry and their characters are adorable together.

I love the way it's a bit tongue-and-cheek about the "corny" K-drama cliches of romance. I love the way our Hero is so laid-back, but has hidden depth. I love the way our Heroine is street and book smart; and, that all she wants is to go back to school. I loved that Secondary Hero is polished and cool, with a bit of a sharp edge.

The show reminded me of Playful Kiss, My Girl, Delightful Girl Choon Hyang and even a bit of Hong Gil Dong - with the way that Wi Mae Ri and Kang Moo Kyul spent the whole episode together and already have an easy friendship; it reminded me of the OTP of HGD during the early episodes.

Three things that I loved, that I'm sure will be reoccurring are: the way Moo Kyul calls Mae Ri "Mary Christmas" when he's drunk or leaving; and, when he's leaving the way she replies with "Happy New Year". The way Moo Kyul freely hugs everyone - he offers hugs like candy. The scar on Mae Ri's forehead being something that Moo Kyul calls "pretty".

I thought the fantasy stuff was a bit over done, but it fits with the naive and pure nature of the Heroine.

Overall, I like the show and will keep watching. Mae Ri is the Korean every-woman: she's smart (both on the street and with books), has goals, works hard, and loves watching dramas. But, she doesn't see her life as a drama - she knows the world is harsh and that rich Prince Charmings aren't going around saving poor girls. Moo Kyul is cool, laid-back, but with a sense of respect and loyalty - he refuses to leave his band-mates to go it alone. From the first episode, I rec it to: fans of romantic comedy, the dramas I mentioned above, our fans of awesome chemistry.

I can't wait to check out Mary - you haven't yet steered me wrong once this year :)

I am probably going to wait for a batch of withs2 subs (I am pretty sure since this is a kbs show, no viikii subs for this one). Otherwise the wait will be too agonizing. Thankfully I got Gloria and a bunch of other dramas to binge on.

I pointed you toward Gloria, but you did point me toward Giant. (I'm not sure if I should thank you yet - the Min-woo/Miju angst is killing me)

I think you should wait for subtitles and maybe marathon it later. It's very well acted, written, etc. But. . .it is very much a rom-com, and I know those are tricky with you.
