Dear Taiwanese drama Gods, I know you love remaking Japanese mangas into Idol dramas, but this is a bit much: "Zettai Kareshi" by Watase Yu is being made into a drama for 2011. Now, I liked the Japanese drama, because it was crack!tastic, but. . .this might be a bit much.

The drama will star Wu Chun (from the boy band Fahrenheit, Romantic Princess, Hua Yang Shao Nian Shao Nu) as Night and Go Hye Sun (Boys Over Flowers; The King and I) as Izawa Riiko. I could deal with Wu Chun playing a robot, but I really hated GHS in Boys Over Flowers, so I doubt I'll watch the show.

I do like the story, because it's weird and cracky, but. . .I don't think I could do another whole fourteen+ hours of Go's overacting. She's apparently a really good writer and director, so maybe she should stick to that? At least in my opinion.

Oh, lord, NO. ::cries:: They should have just stopped at Meteor Garden.

On the other hand, I find most live-action modern Taiwanese dramas too silly for my taste--the two exceptions I can think of are Lavender and Silence, but otherwise, not so keen on them. I wish Taiwan would do more historical dramas, but I bet it's because mainland China's already got a handle on them. I think I'll just watch Yi Zhi Mei and pretend the Taiwanese Zettai Kareshi doesn't exist.

I'm not too into Taiwanese dramas, because they have a tendency to be over the top and a bit too formulaic. I did like Meteor Garden and Mars, and I'm sure there are one or two other dramas from Japanese mangas that I'm sure I've watched and liked. But, like you I tend to go toward dramas that are more realistic, I guess. I love My Lucky Star, The Outsiders, Silence, My Queen - things that aren't totally "Idol" or crazy.

I think the reason that Taiwan doesn't do more historical dramas is because of budget issues. Mainland China usually films shows, like a year before they air and they seem to have bigger budgets. Is Yi Zhi Mei out and being subbed? I have an insane crush on Wallace Huo.

Yeah--even with Lavender, it was horrendously formulaic, but Silence seemed to deviate, if only a little. That kept me interested, even if I wasn't too impressed with the love polygon going on.

I don't know if Yi Zhi Mei is out yet. I bet Jiang Hu will pick it up and sub it, though, but the queue looks kind of long (they haven't gotten to Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber 2009 yet).

I really hope that Yi Zhi Mei does get subbed. I adore Wallace Huo, and it makes me sad that hardly any of his dramas are subbed.

... I might regret saying this but what is this weird obsession that Taiwan has with Korean actresses? Especially ones that can't, for the life of them, act?

Wu Chun, I love you, but I am wholeheartedly passing. Hayami Mokomichi ftw.

I was thinking the same thing. Twdramas just love importing Koreans, don't they?

They really seem to. Park Shin Hye (You're Beautiful, Tree of Heaven) has also been cast,ed in an Idol drama. Now that I don't get.

It seems that lately a lot of Korean stars are trying to break into the Chinese/Taiwanese market. I have no idea why.

I'd rather watch Hayami Mokomichi, because he's hotter when his shirt is off. (Yes, I am that shallow)

Wow... :/
I love Wu Chun and all....but he can't act. Well...at least he's playing a robot XD
I hate it when foreign stars are dubbed too...because the dubbing usually sucks.

Thankfully there isn't much dubbing done (well, Mainland China loves to dub people), but I do get used to it. However, I agree that it's weird and unsettling at first. I agree - Wu Chun has found his perfect role - a robot.
