Mmm. . .on the one hand this finale was a bit anticlimactic. I believe a lot of it was rushed and almost wish it was a two hour (aka 70 min with ads) finale. On the other hand so many things were answers/resolved. I spent the last few episodes (since roughly "Hat Trick") screaming for certain things to happen, so the fact that they finally did happen made me very happy. Overall I really enjoyed the finale. But, before I give my thoughts: The producers are dirty dirty liars who lie. However, their dirty lies make me happy.
- Graham saved Charming/James! That was such a lovely cameo. I'm guessing he'll be back in the FTL in S2, pretending to track down Snow and Charming/James.
- Emma finally believes thanks to some odd childhood/newborn baby flashbacks. I guess she remembered from touching the book because Henry was in danger?
- From the way Regina reacted to everything regarding Henry, I do believe she loves him. Maybe not as strongly as most people think a mother should love a child, but as much as she can.
- The MM/David stuff was just yawn worthy. Hopefully that is over forever and ever. Because I can't take anymore of it.
- August is wood! I really hope he was "cured" at the end of the episode. Marco/Gepetto, go find your son!
- Jefferson creeping around the hospital was just so. . .Regina. I felt badly for him. But, I love that he paid Regina back by releasing Belle.
- Loved that Regina and Emma teamed up to save Henry. I also really enjoyed her reactions to some of the stuff that was happening. Like when she told August she had just talked to the Evil Queen and Rumpelstiltskin. There was a little 'wtf?' in her voice that I loved. Or the way she tried using the gun to kill the dragon. It was just. . .so something an everyday person would do. Screw swords, I got a gun!
- Speaking of: I adored the inter-cut of Charming fighting Maleficent and Emma fighting her. It was just nice to see how similar they are. I mean we have seen Emma's similarities to Snow, but not really to James/Charming.
- Also, the Rumpelstiltskin and Charming/James fight was really well done. Some humor, but also that underlying seriousness because we know what's coming and we know Rumpelstiltskin is just playing is own game. (Also loved that Belle was mentioned)
- Gold tying Regina up and stealing the true love bottle? He really always has is own plans, doesn't he? But, I still laughed.
- The bit where Snow and Charming/James decide to "take back the kingdom" felt rather rushed. I'm also annoyed that it seems S2 FTL flashbacks will focus on the take down of King George and Regina. Mostly because I don't think they can really get a whole season out of that. But, it will parallel nicely to what might happen in SB: the (possible) take down of Regina and/or Rumpelstiltskin.
- The scene were Gold/Rumpelstiltskin turns around and there is Belle. And he asks if she's real (oh the times he must have imaged her!) and she just looks super confused and he's hugging her. Oh, that scene broke my shipper heart! Then he takes her to the woods and she remembers. When she tells him to stop and she says she remembers. The look on RC's face. . .perfect. The "I love yous" were just. . .wow. So happy about that.
- Emma waking Henry with 'true love's kiss' was something I saw coming. It's great that the show has strong parent/child relationships, and really Henry has been Emma's "love interest"
since the Pilot. However, I thought it was something that was a bit. . .I saw it coming the minute Henry passed out last week. I kind of wish the writers had thrown a slight curve ball with that. Some how.
- Everyone remembering. . .that must suck in a way. Because now they have two sets of memories. And since they are still stuck in SB, there is a bit of a 'What now?' feel to it. The Curse isn't broken. Rumpelstiltskin put much more into it for his own reasons. I'm betting that's what S2 will deal with.
- Rumpelstiltskin releasing magic into SB. . .wtf?! The look Belle gave him leads me to believe she will not be happy with that. No one will. Except maybe Regina, because of her smile. His line about magic being power, it made me think that yes, he wanted his son back, but. . .he's also power hungry. It makes him less of a coward in his eyes. He needs that magic power to protect Belle and find his son, but I think he also needs it to keep the Curse going. And he needs the Curse for so many reasons, I think. Magic seems to have a way of making people unstable.
Overall, I think this show has a slow start up. Honestly I didn't really love it until around episode 12. The second half of the season was amazing, though. (Even if the MM/David story line and Emma's attitude annoyed me at times.) I am really looking forward to S2.
Also - the DVD and Blu-ray will be released in late August (28th). Price: DVD $45.99, Blu-ray $79.99. The Blu-ray is set to have a ton of extras, as is the DVD. Including deleted scenes, cast interviews about characters and childhood memories of fairy tales, a little documentary about creating their versions of characters, bloopers, and much more.
