The soft subs for Giant's thirty-third and thirty-fourth episodes are out. With this drama being sixty episodes, this is the turning point. Secrets have been discovered, lovers have been separated, and characters have embraced their inner darkness.
I think what is really great about this drama is the writing. All the plot twists are brilliantly done; and, all the characters are complex and rich in development.
Episode 33:
- Jo Pil Yeon aka Satan is insane. He just has to be. Remember in episode one when So Tae told Gangmo that Pil Yeon had escaped from the mental hospital again? Yeah, I don't think it's just the Lee brothers that drive him insane. I think Satan has a real mental disorder. No normal human could do the things he does and say the things he says without being damn crazy.
- Hwang Jung Shik. I guess we are supposed to think of him as not a nice person, but honestly I just feel sorry for him. The actor, Kim Jung Hyun, is perfect for this role. I think its painfully clear that Hwang Tae Sub prefers his daughter to his son, and that his mother uses him a pawn in her power games. He's a weak man whose made a lot of mistakes. But, I can see him being redeemed at a later date. He's an idiot whose gotten himself into trouble due to accidents and badly planned plots - really, I just feel badly for him.
- Miju and Min Woo are the cutest things ever. But, I cannot believe that are that innocent and naive when it comes to his parents. And, wait. . .they slept together in episode thirty or thirty-one, right? Morning sickness takes place during the first three months of pregnancy, but is at its worse during the third month due to the forming of organs. So. . .is Miju three months along? Again the time line of this show confuses me!
- I still cannot bring myself to care about Jung Yeon or the whole business of Manbo vs. Gangmo's company.
Episode 34:
- I loved the beginning with the Lee siblings having a meal together and then their walk home. They truly have a wonderful relationship.
- I'm happy that Sung Mo is having people look for Junmo in America. I really hope they show him before the end of the series. I'd love for him to come back with his adopted parents for a visit.
- Satan wanting SM to bring Miju for an abortion? Satan is Satan. Whatever happens to him, he deserves it.
- I was so mad at the Lee brothers yelling at Miju about how she can't be with Min Woo and then having her write that note, their clearing her apartment, and then making an appointment for her abortion. I was just so disappointed in them.
- I'm so happy Miju ran out of the abortion room.
- The scene with SM beating up Min Woo while Min Woo cried and begged for SM to tell him where Miju is was so heartbreaking. SM has said that Miju is what he lives for, but it's very clear that he also cares about MW - SM is between a rock and a hard place with this one. I think that was why he told GM he's "take care" of MW, because part of him knew that GM would take things too far. I think there is a large part of SM that wants both MW and Miju to be happy together, but he knows that is impossible right now because of his and GM's feelings toward Satan and GM's feelings toward MW.
I'm looking forward to watching episodes 35-36 with subtitles; and, of course, I'll be watching the RAWs on Monday and Tuesday.
