Dear Flist,

I'm in the market for a new anti-virus protection program. I've tried several over the years: Spyware Doctor, Kaspersky, McAfee, and Norton. All of them seemed to do alright for a few months, but after a while they stopped working as well. So, I was wondering what you guys would rec? Maybe all of you/some of you know some good anti-virus programs that I've over looked. I've heard good things about webroot, but it seems costly.

Any help would be awesome.

Thanks.

EDIT: Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I went to the store and all they had was Norton, McAfee, and Kaspersky. I took Kaspersky, as it's meant to be one of the best.

I use Comodo Internet Security and Super AntiSpyware. They work well for me. :D

Thanks for the recs. I've decided webroot is out as it seems to slow computers down. I've never heard of CIS and SAS.

I like CIS because it comes with the option of blocking all program actions on your computer without you explicitly allowing them. It's annoying at first (because you have to teach it to allow everything) but then nothing gets installed or messes with your registry without your say-so.

Cool. I'm shopping for it tomorrow (it's been three days without any protection, so I need to get on the ball) and will check out CIS at Bestbuy.

I use the free version of avast!--so far, it's been a year and no problems, unlike McAfee where it just kept letting in more and more viruses.

I had McAfee once and hated it. I'll look at avast! - thanks for the rec. I really want something that does well, but doesn't slow my system down.

i have kaspersky (but he thinks he is the only important program there), and mt brother recs me Dr. Web (and i kind of love it, because once my pc was badly damaged with viruses the free version of dr. web saved my very precious pc :D )

I do think kaspersky has its good points - it just slows everything down and it misses some stuff. I'll look at Dr. Web. Thanks.

I use the combination of AVG free and Comodo Firewall. I haven't had a problem with viruses for years now, at least in the units I had installed them in.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have had issues with AVG before, and it didn't really work for me. :/
