Cosmic Dancer

by Mollycoddle

Character: River Tam

I danced myself out of the womb

Is it strange to dance so soon?

I danced myself into the tomb

Everyone thought that River only loved two things in the ‘verse: Simon Tam and dancing. Now, she could argue about what and who she loved, but that was just troublesome and rather time consuming. Besides, it was rather sweet and comforting for Simon to believe that he was one of only two things that River loved. And wasn’t it just better for everyone if River only loved Simon and dancing?

To dance. And hadn’t dancing…hadn’t being smart enough to learn all the dances so quickly, gotten her into so much trouble so very long ago?

Would I still be allowed to dance?

Sometimes River thought she had danced out of her mother. Or maybe she had just danced into being and the Tam family had taken her in? The stars had taught her to dance, hadn’t they? Or maybe it had been something else. A tall and graceful woman whose name and face River could no longer remember, no matter how hard she tried. Yes, she had been taught to dance by that person. Or at least everyone assumed that was the way it had been. River knew better then that.

River believed she had been born dancing. She knew she would die dancing. No, not dancing. She’d move gracefully when she died, but no one would call it dancing, except for her. She’d die because she could dance better then anyone, because she was smarter then everyone. River understood that, though she did not comprehend it.

She had started dancing before she was born. She would die dancing. It was strange and unusual, but then, so was she.

*sniff...sniff*

At least, she dies her way.

Awwwwww, yea it is simple to pretend you don't love Jayne and that you just love Simon and dancing. *gets kick in the head by Muse* OW

Muse: THIS. IS. NOT. RAYNE! Leave the writer alone!
