Random Drama Thoughts

Being Human begins its third series tomorrow night. I'm excited, but not overly so. I know that many times the first episode of a new series/season is just set-up, so not too much happens. (BTW: has anyone else seen the ads for the U.S. remake? What is with the U.S. remaking all these British shows at once: Shameless, Skins, Being Human - why not just show the originals? The Sy-fy channel shows Merlin - they couldn't show Being Human?)

Also - I watched the first episode of the MTV Skins and thought it was alright. I give it a C; not bad but not great. Some of the acting isn't very good, but I see potential in some of the characters and actors. It was rather tame compared to the U.K. version - even though they used the same script - so I'm slightly confused with all the anger over it from the conservative groups. (They like The Secret Life of the American Teenager - a show all about teen sex, but not this?)

I am all caught up with both My Princess and Dream High:

I think MP is really a marathon type show; it is very fluffy and addictive because of the interaction of the OTP. The plot is slowly starting to come together, which I like. But, the Secondary Female is truly just evil - I want to punch her in the face. The sister isn't much better. Why is she so jealous; even before Seol was shown to be the missing Princess, Dan was mean to her. I want to know why.

Dream High is also rather addictive, and like My Princess, would be a fun drama to marathon. Surprisingly, I'm not shipping much in this drama (just Jason/Pil Sook) - the shipper and character wars on soompi are crazy. I also like all the characters, even the "evil" ones. I'm more interested in the interactions and friendships. The storyline is a bit thin, and the acting isn't always solid, but I like these characters.

I'm still watching Gloria; I'm up to episode forty-six with subtitles. I love the way everything is coming together. But, I've had to stop going to Soompi - they are all about JJ/KS and have to regard for the rest of the storylines and characters. I like JJ/KS, but I do care about the other storylines and would like to discuss that sometimes. Anyway - I like the way the show is wrapping up and the way the character arcs are all slowly ending.

The new Japanese television season has started, but I'm not sure what to watch. It seems most of the dramas are crime/mystery/cop based, and I'm really not in the mood for that. For my Japanese viewing, I'm more in the mood for something more romantic, as its been a while since I've watched a good romantic Japanese drama. But, I'm not interested in Fuyu no Sakura (she's having an affair; even if she doesn't know it, it's still not my thing) or Taisetsu na Koto wa Subete Kimi ga Oshiete Kureta (I'm not a Toda Erika fan). I don't think I'll be watching any new Japanese dramas this season.

So - what is everyone else watching?

I just finished Joseon X-Files and was . . . underimpressed. I wonder, did the people who thought the show was the ultimate never watched sci-fi shows before? Because I grew up on sci-fi, my mom totally into it, and most of the storylines, etc. were not surprising, new or fresh to me except sometimes with Korean cultural references. Except for Episode 7, that really was superb. The directing, acting etc. were good and all, but outside of that . . . not that impressive.

I'm watching My Princess too. Cute and likeable, but its not love for me. I also caught part of the Japanese drama Guilty, which has an interesting concept, but I couldn't really like the characters.

Of all the shows I'm watching now, Awayjee See Chompoo is probably the one I'm really waiting to watch. Its about a marriage between a high school girl and her older guardian. Really sweet, seeing as their feelings gradually change towards each other.

For a Japanese show to watch, I recommend Nagareboshi, the only Japanese show I've actually finished watching recently. Its more about family then a focus on romance, but I found it enjoyable.

Not watching any American tv right now, but recommend Man From Nowhere, the Korean film, if you like movies with the one guy who's superior to everyone else kicking butt right and left. Good fun that!

[identity profile] your-insomnia.livejournal.com 2011-01-23 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
Could you tell me more about Nagareboshi? I was considering it because the synopsis intrigued me but I have no one to consult with on whether it is really good!

[identity profile] jamieguo48.livejournal.com 2011-01-23 08:03 am (UTC)(link)
Nagareboshi is like an extended version of the aquarium scene from the Romeo and Juliet movie with Leo DiCarpio. Very pretty to look at, but some things don't really make sense, and I wished they focused more on the two leads and less on the sister.

I enjoyed the atmosphere of it, the music, the look and some of the characters more than the plot, which was kinda pedestrian.

[identity profile] your-insomnia.livejournal.com 2011-01-24 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
I see! Thank you.

I guess it's not the drama to watch if I want to get back into jdramas...

[identity profile] walkwithheroes.livejournal.com 2011-01-25 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
I've yet to see Joseon X-Files, but everyone I know who has raves about it. I grew up on a lot of sci-fi, myself. I don't know if I'll ever watch it, but I completely admit it looks pretty.

I loved Guilty! I thought the characters really interested in their own ways. A bit melodramatic, but a fun Japanese revenge drama. My Princess is cute and fluffy fun.

Awayjee See Chompoo it sounds a bit out there. Where's it from?

I saw a bit of Nagereboshi when it aired. I liked it well enough, but the subtitles were slow, and the more I heard about the plot - the more it seemed like it wasn't for me.

Man From Nowhere was awesome!

Your drama list is pretty much like mine.

And so much amen on the scariness of DH thread.

[identity profile] walkwithheroes.livejournal.com 2011-01-25 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
The DH thread at soompi is insane. I stay away.

[identity profile] your-insomnia.livejournal.com 2011-01-23 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
Even though I feel a void after Msoan and SG ended, I didn't start Dream High or My Princess yet. I got into a habit of watching kdramas as they air, because I like looking foward to something each week but I think it's time for me to let go of that habit because of the incredible disappointment I feel with every single ending. Most dramas start off nicely and have lots of potential that is ultimately always wasted. I end up finishing them, but in retrospect I shouldn't have watched any of the dramas I started last year (except My Girlfriend is a Gumiho, I loved it until the end! And maybe Personal Taste until ep 10 and SG's first 2 episodes). So yeah, going to wait until MP and DH finish airing and if the final verdict is good I will marathon it :)

Right now I decided to catch up on older dramas that I usually have no time to get invested in. For example I started Que Sera Sera (I have some problems with it but it's very addictive so I will keep watching). Also was craving something relaxing and mind-numbing so started watching King of Baking but it's mostly hosted on wat.com which somehow doesn't work for me so I'm considering downloading it or perhaps dropping it altogether.

There is a taiwanese drama I got kind of interested in but only watched the first episode - Gloomy Salad Days (the title sounded so ridicilous I had to check it out!). It's very intriguing, need to watch more asap!

Wanted to watch a jdrama as well since I abandoned jdramas for the past 2 years, but I don't know if there is anything good that came out lately! I actually just started reading synopses off mysoju to see if something catches my attention. Would you happen to have any recommendations?

[identity profile] walkwithheroes.livejournal.com 2011-01-25 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
Que Sera Sera is a vastly underrated drama. The characters are actually really complicated and interesting people, which I enjoyed. I watched the first episode of Gloomy Salad Days, and didn't like it. Which was a shame, because I'd really love to start another Tw-drama.

Japanese recommendations? It depends what you're in the mood for:

darker/revenge/mystery dramas I like: Guilty, Zeni Geba, and Majo Saiban

romance/school/drama: Q10, Nobuta wo Produce, Natsu no Koi wa Nijiiro ni Kagayaku, Smile, Orange Days, etc

[identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com 2011-01-23 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I have not watched much of Gloria recently - the restoration of the mental powers of the older sister was a little too "miraculous" of me. I am going to get over it someday!

Although I like JJ/KS I am more about the other couple , I hope everything works well for those two.

[identity profile] walkwithheroes.livejournal.com 2011-01-25 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
With Gloria, I think they mentioned early on that it was simply a brain injury and that must of her acting like a 5 year old was self-induced. So, the surgery was ok with me.

I prefer YS/DA, too. As of episode 48 (just two left!) things are working out. They had a lot of angst (much more then JJ/KS, actually), but they are okay.

[identity profile] wywy86.livejournal.com 2011-05-25 12:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey I also love Dong Ah otp. I think that's my main otp of Gloria for me.
I thought of going to soompi for discussion about them but seeing your messiah there's nothing about them there?such a pity

[identity profile] walkwithheroes.livejournal.com 2011-05-26 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
DA/YS were my favorite OTP in Gloria. At soompi, most of the discussion was about JJ/KS.

[identity profile] wywy86.livejournal.com 2011-05-26 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
Do you know where I could get a good discussion of Dong Ah/YS? Can't get enough of them

[identity profile] walkwithheroes.livejournal.com 2011-05-27 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
Sadly, no. Since the series ended, I doubt many people are talking about it. But, if you ever want to discuss it (and DA/YS)- I'm available. :)

[identity profile] wywy86.livejournal.com 2011-05-27 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
Oww... yea cause the series has ended a while ago.. during the show aired, does DA/YS get many attention too? Cause yea like you said in soompi they focus on JJ/KS.. which is another good couple but doesn't attract me as much as DA/YS. They just have special chemistry and special storyline that I haven't come across in many Kdramas.

[identity profile] walkwithheroes.livejournal.com 2011-05-27 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
DA/YS didn't get much attention, at soompi, while the show was airing. I don't know how far you are in the show, but they have a great storyline during most of the 50 episodes. I'd say their storyline gets a bit boring around episode 43-ish or so, but, they always have great chemistry. I'll be making two more videos about their storyline sometime this summer.

[identity profile] wywy86.livejournal.com 2011-05-28 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
I realised people in soompi actually didn't care much for the second couple storyline in most of the drama.. which I don't know sometimes I sort of attracted to second couple more than the first couple.
So... this means even if i go to soompi, i won't find a lot of discussion about them? is it worth going there at all? I haven't gotten into that far yet actually I'm in the mid of 30ish and a lot of angst happening now. 43ish.. i assume is when everything is resolved for their relationship?
Yay can't wait for your video

[identity profile] walkwithheroes.livejournal.com 2011-05-28 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
You'll find some conversation about them, but not very much. It's not worth it, unless you want KS/JJ spoilers. Yup, their relationship is more or less resolved by that time - they have a lot of angst throughout the series, but its a happy ending for them.

I've made several videos with them. Check my Gloria tag.

[identity profile] wywy86.livejournal.com 2011-05-29 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
Ahh... ok.. yea i won't venture to soompi then. KS/JJ is okay but doesn't interest me that much. So by eppy 43 is a happy ending then.. Maybe the writer wants to let us see some happy relationship after all the angst. They actually have massive chemistry. Which scene is ur fave?

I've watched all ur Gloria video.. They're awesome.. Love song requiem especially in love with them.
Can't get enough of them

[identity profile] walkwithheroes.livejournal.com 2011-05-29 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
I think my favorite scenes from them are from early on in their relationship. I love their first meeting, where she is about to kill herself and he reaches out for her wrist. I also love when he washes her hands after she vomits from drinking too much. Their first hug in episode 7/8. When he first piggybacks her. Their wedding and honeymoon. I really love all their scenes.

How about you?

[identity profile] wywy86.livejournal.com 2011-05-29 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
Oh their first meeting def is my fave and I really think the writer is so innoovative. Never really watched those kind of meeting in other drama and I love their talk in hospital rooftop too. Plus of course the piggy back scene. what I love about this couple is you can see their transformation and they are just like 2 kids that are so fragile

[identity profile] walkwithheroes.livejournal.com 2011-05-29 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I loved their roof top talk, as well. I think that I agree with you: they are like two fragile children. Their courtship and love is very innocent, in many ways. I think that's why I love them so much as an OTP - they aren't like all the other K-drama couples I've seen before. They weren't bickering, they were very sweet together.

[identity profile] wywy86.livejournal.com 2011-05-30 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
Yup that's right.. and I can so see the difference when Yeon Seo is with Dong Ah.. so different as a person. When she's with her parents even with KS .. she's such a depressed/gloomy person but whenever she's with Dong Ah she's like a light bulb just sparkle and she smiles more and becomes such a strong person

What she says is right.. if she didn't met Dong Ah.. i think one of those days she's gonna try her suicide again and it might be successful.

I think they're both an individual that saves each other ...
On a side note.. OMG I hate KS brother... he's such an annoying person and his face.. omg #$(%*#%

[identity profile] walkwithheroes.livejournal.com 2011-05-31 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
YS really lights up around DA. I love that.

Creepy (KS's bro) is the worst character. He's such a villain, and he tries to ruin the lives of so many people - but, he has no real reason for half of what he does.

[identity profile] wywy86.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. Its so different when she's with other people. Gloomy. At least for DA, he's still has a nice supporting friends. Omg YS her parents are ridiculously crazy. I can't believe her dad wants her to marry a murderer even when he already knew about it. No wonder she's suicidal. How can she live in family like that. Plus her mum is crazy too. Nutcase family

Creepy is crazy. I don't know why he's so obsessed with YS. I can't see any reason and he is jus a sick person.

[identity profile] walkwithheroes.livejournal.com 2011-06-02 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
YS's parents are terrible.

I have no idea why Creepy is so obsessed with her, either. It was something I often wondered about while watching the show. She said two words to him on the plane, and he was obsessed. All I can think is that she reminded him of his wife and of JJ's sister.

[identity profile] wywy86.livejournal.com 2011-06-02 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
Yes you might be right. She's reminded him of JJ sister.
But her obsession is so scary. I finally finish watching it. Though at the end
their relatonshoip a bit boring but they're so cute together. And I luv how finally YS parents see the good thing about DA

[identity profile] walkwithheroes.livejournal.com 2011-06-02 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
i do agree - their storyline was slow toward the end. I think they realized that DA was intelligent and had a lot to offer. Plus, the parent-in-laws always come around when a baby is involved.

[identity profile] wywy86.livejournal.com 2011-06-02 09:46 am (UTC)(link)
I feel that from 44-50 episode, the main storyline focus on JJ/KS revenge and love story as for DA & YS they sort of resolve it .... nothing much happening. I sort of want more storyline for them but I guess they want to show them their loving relationship after such an angsty storyline.
The difference between KS/JJ & DA/YS relationship is.. KS & JJ are both mature individual though they love each other but if for any reason they didn't end up together I guess both of them can still live on.

But for YS/DA.. especially YS.. I sort can see if she is forced to marry Creepy... she'll commit suicide again maybe not long after making sure DA is okay

[identity profile] walkwithheroes.livejournal.com 2011-06-04 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
I actually think the revenge story and JJ pushing KS away went on for way too long. That storyline really dragged. You are right - JJ and KS were fine together or apart. While they loved each other, it always seemed a more mature and settled love.

Yes, DA/YS were more innocent and needed each other much more. I thought the two relationships were the two extremes of K-drama couples.

[identity profile] wywy86.livejournal.com 2011-06-04 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
I agree.. and I don't know why I can't really justify JJ action towards KS in a way. Yes I do get her revenge but it's getting overboard. That's the reason why I can't really get engrossed in their love story towards the end

Yup i agree regarding both were two extremes of Kdrama couples. When they're both together 4 of them.. you can just feel their happiness. Such a great drama where they focus not only on the relationship but also on the friendship

[identity profile] wywy86.livejournal.com 2011-06-06 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
One of these days I think I need to rewatch Gloria but just focusing on DA/YS.

I found a clip in youku (sort of chinese youtube) that just focus on DA/YS which is great cause I don't need to FF other part of the show.

Can't wait for your next video about them

[identity profile] walkwithheroes.livejournal.com 2011-06-06 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll be starting the video within the next two weeks or so. :)

[identity profile] wywy86.livejournal.com 2011-06-07 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
Yay can't wait..how long do you normally take to create a video.. seems like it's a really time consuming activity :)

[identity profile] walkwithheroes.livejournal.com 2011-06-07 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
It can be rather time consuming. It takes me different amounts of time, depending on what's going on in my life and how into the video I am. I've done a video in a day, and it's taken me three weeks to do a video. I haven't started this one, yet. There are a couple of other vids I want to do first,

[identity profile] wywy86.livejournal.com 2011-06-09 02:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow. hehe.. 3 weeks to do a video ... you need to have a real patience :)
Can't wait for your video. Won't rush you. I'm sure you will create a great one
