Hmm... Well, I've seen him be wonderfully amazing both in drama and comedy and most importantly because he's ginger, I just have to say Damien Lewis. He was scary in Forsyte Saga, noble and brave in Band of Brothers, quirky and funny in Much ado about nothing (which incidentally, was with Billie Pipier as Hero).
As for a companion for him, hmm... I'd say Emilia Fox just because she's so etheral and unusual as a figure. I've seen her in Silent Witness and she can pull off the smart, authoritative persona too.
