Review of Lost's episode "?"
Lost Review for “?” aka “Locke and Eko: the Ultimate Island Adventure” aka “We Told You Pressing the Button Was Useless” aka “Score One for the ’It’s a big experiment’ Theory”.
We begin this episode with some questions: What are the people on the island eating before bedtime that makes them have freaky-ass dreams? Why is it suddenly the middle of the night, wasn’t it daylight last time? Is it strange that Charlie and Eko are sleeping so close? Is it okay if some of us think it is kind of hot? Is it okay that I’m sobbing for Ana and Libby and calling Michael a ‘lying bastard’ and a ’poor confused guy’ at the same time? Who knows. I did some myself, so I guess it is okay.
For me, this episode was about a lot of different things. Choice, faith, regret, and realizing that you’re not doing or are doing right.
It was an Eko flashback, so let us start with that. Eko’s flashback was wonderful. It wasn’t ‘too much’ or ‘look, it’s shocking!’. It was more ‘This is what happened.’ and that is what made it cool. Personally, I hate when the flashbacks try and be shocking. I like when they just give an inside view of the characters.
Characters:
Eko: He went on a spiritual journey, I suppose. I think Eko is looking for a reason of why this is happening. He wants information, but he also wants to believe that it is all happening for a reason higher then any information can give him. Eko is by far one of the most interesting characters on the show. He’s a priest, but at times he seems unsure of it. He takes the island as it comes, but he also seems to have an unconscious need to learn more about what is happening. The latter most likely because Yemi died on the island and now Eko is there. That’s pretty strange.
Locke: I hate Locke, that’s pretty clear by those who know me. So, in a way I was happy that he finally started to see that he’s spent the last season and a half doing nothing of great importance. That he let an innocent man die because he was stupid and that the island needed the death of Boone. That the island isn’t so great place, it’s just an island. Locke’s finally seeing that and I’m glad. Oh, I still hate his guts, but at least he’s starting to see that he’s been a creepy crazy man and that it is all meant nothing. (Or has it? Dum, dum, DUM!)
Jack: Strangely enough, I really don’t have much to say about Jack. He showed that he is the leader of the group tonight. But, it really is same old, same old. Jack needs to get less air time in season three, because he is starting to bore me.
Michael: Nervous the whole episode. Michael is getting a lot of hate from the fans, but I still say he didn’t mean to kill Libby and he didn’t really want to kill Ana. The Others are threatening Walt unless he does as they say, I promise you. His flashback should be interesting and informative.
Sawyer: Genius to hide the guns in his own hut or whatever you wish to call it. I think Josh H. did a nice job of showing Sawyer’s sadness at finding Ana and Libby, after all he has known them a while and he did hike across the island with them. He should be sad that they died. Also, the look on his face when Hurley asked about Libby-it was wonderful acting by Josh.
Kate: Not too much of her this week and that made me sooooo freaking happy. Little less of the so called ‘fab four’ (Jack, Kate, Locke, the hatch) please.
Hurley: I can’t even….my heart breaks for the poor guy. He finally found someone and she dies maybe a week or two later. His tearful ‘I’m sorry I forgot the blankets’ line had me near tears.
Libby: Very said that she died and that no one understood what ‘Michael’ really meant.
Charlie: Awesome to see him again. I was starting to wonder if he and the other seldom seen castaways had found a way off the island.
Preview:
Whoa, next week “Three Minutes” aka “Michael’s Tale” aka “So, Michael’s Not Crazy?” looks intense and soo interesting. Sayid going all military? Claire…that was CLAIRE! Lord, I thought she had escaped the island and not bothered to tell anyone. Michael with the Others? Walt? And what is everyone looking at? Can’t wait.
