I think misterX/WITHS2 is planning to sub Eye of Dawn this winter, maybe you could follow the drama while they do.

A couple of epic/period dramas (set in 20c) come to mind, but unfortunately, I don't think there are subs. Even something as 'recent' as the adaptation of Park Kyung Ni's Toji (The Land) on SBS in 2004 (http://tv.sbs.co.kr/toji/) hasn't been subbed, though the 50+ ep. challenge didn't help. My favorite version, the KBS adaptation from the late 1980s, lasted over 100+ eps. so that should tell you something about the scope and scale of Park's masterpiece. (The Times obituary for Park provides a good summary of Toji: 'Chronicling the lives of five generations of a rural landowning family in Park’s native province, this epic used their personalities and experiences as a microcosm of the history of the nation from the end of the 19th century, through decades of Japanese colonial rule, to the division of the Korean peninsula in 1945.')

As for melodramas, it's harder, but that's because I'm drawing a blank on the last time there was a melodrama proper (outside Xmas etc. with Go Soo). And if we go further back into the early 2000s or 1990s, we run into sub issues again.
