Yes, but how can he be Cajun if he's from New Orleans? And how can there be a cave there? And how. .

The above is by me, pointing out the mistakes in the Gambit character to my sister earlier in the week. In case you haven't guessed the family is off to see the new Wolverine film today. I think it will be a fun comic movie to spend two hours or so watching. I'll let anyone interested know how it turns out.

I have on occasion wondered about those things myself, particularly the cave.

It makes me think whoever researched the character, didn't really research Louisiana. New Orleans is below sea level - no caves. The Gambit character peppers his English with Parisian French. From what I recall from family and friends - if he peppers his English with anything, it should be Creole or Cajun French. He is more likely to be Creole than Cajun, as we Cajuns normally live farther north.

That said - the actor that plays him is cute and thankfully (though people are complaining) his accent wasn't cartoon/stereotypically strong. The comics and cartoons have always made him have a freakishly strong accent, and I have never heard of a 20-something speaking with that thick of an accent. A person from way out in the country, maybe. An older person, sure. But not a 20-something from around/near New Orleans.
