stuff I'm really looking forward to watching. I'm bored, so I thought I'd share promos for shows and, upcoming episodes of shows, that I'm looking forward to.

lots of awesome )
walkwithheroes: [Hong Gil Dong] ([Film] Different Is Cool)
I have just finished episode three of What's Up? and I am officially in love with the drama and its characters.

I looked up some of the actors and actresses in the show and was really surprised to find that, for many of them, What's Up?, was their first or second role in a drama. I can really see these people going far in the entertainment business. This was Jo Jung Suk (Byung Gun), Kang Dae Sung (Do Sung), and Kim Ji Won (Tae Hee)first roles in dramas. And only the second or third drama roles for Im Joo Eun (Doo Ri) and Lee Soo Hyuk (Soo Bin). Honestly, I'm very surprised by that, because they are all amazing in their roles.

After finishing the third episode, I have decided two things:

- Byung Gun is the most adorkable and loveable character in Korean drama history. I really want him to get over his stage fright and become a huge musical star.
- I will 'ship Tae Hee and Jae Hun now and until the end of the drama. They are just so cute together. She makes him relax and smile!

Other spoiler-filled thoughts on the episode and characters )

So yes, I'm still in love with this drama. Why aren't you watching it?!

I have just finished the first two episodes of the new Korean drama, What's Up?, and I think I'm going to like this drama. The first two episodes are very much a set up of whose who and where the story lines and relationships might be headed. Honestly, why did it take so long for this to find a channel and spot to air on?

about the characters )

The show is off to a great start, and I'm sure it won't happen but

I'm already shipping )

So, yup - loving it. Watch it!
walkwithheroes: [Hong Gil Dong] ([Chinese P.] Dorks)
I've started this brilliant Korean drama and think it's truly one of the best dramas of 2011. The back story was beyond interesting, and I loved the children/teen actors playing our leads. Song Joong Ki blew me away as the young king, depressingly trying to do what's right. And, the relationship between the young Chae Yoon and So Yi was just so sweet. I especially loved the relationship between young CY and his father.

Also - the little bit we saw of Jang Hyuk playing an adult CY. . .that's just an amazing performance right there. He hides his true thoughts behind humor and acting like a fool. But, inside he's so full of hate and sorrow - all he wants is revenge. And, he's smart enough to pull it off.

I look forward to more.

Some new cast members for Dream High 2 have been released. Park Jin Young is returning. In the first series he played the "misfits"' English teacher/secret tutor. Another teacher has been reviled Kim Jung Tae (last seen in Girl K will have a role, possibly as the students' teacher.

As for the students - three have been cast. Rumor has it two more student cast members will join them, though that hasn't been confirmed.

The cast: (who are all two years older than half the cast of the first Dream High)

Jinwoon (21) of 2AM has been cast in one of the leading male student roles.

Hyorin (22) of the K-pop group "SISTAR" seems to be taking on the Suzy role. Or rather a type of role like Suzy played. I say this, simply because they have a similar look.

Kang So -Ra (23) doesn't seem to be in any pop group, so I'm wondering if she'll be the female Kim Soo-Hyun of the group. At the very least, she has several acting credits to her, which is more than the other two student cast members.

After weeks of speculation, the casting for JGS's newest drama, Love Rain has moved forward. We now know two new cast members and more about the characters they'll play. We also have a plot:

"Love Rain will be a melodrama that transcends generations. It will tell the story of pure loves with emotion that will make the viewers cry and smile. It spans from a pure love in the 1970s analog age, to a trendy love in the digital age"

The cast )

So. . .I'm guessing this is a "sins of the father/mother" type thing? Because JGS is said to be the male lead in both the 1970s and the 2012 parts of the drama. (We'll see both stories play out together.) I'm guessing In-Ha loses Yoon-Hee, but his son gets her daughter? That grosses me out a little, to be honest.

I also have to be frank: I'm not happy with Yoona casted as the female lead. Because - she's not a strong actress. She's wooden at times and never emotes as she should. I also think Yoona tends to bring down the talents of her co-stars. There were many other actresses in the 20-25 age range that would have been much better, in my opinion. I cannot remember Kim Shi-Hoo in anything, so I can't comment on him.

I hate to say it - but, my interest in this drama has waned. Love Rain starts filming next week and is shooting for an early 2012 air date.
walkwithheroes: [Hong Gil Dong] ([MSOAN] Scar Kiss)
I just read this on dramabeans and had to share - Jang Geun-seok has been casted in a new drama. The drama begins filming in September, and it's from PD Yoon Suk-ho. For those that don't know, Yoon Suk-ho is the man that gave us Winter Sonata, Autumn in my Heart, Summer Scent, and Spring Waltz. He's made somewhat known Korean stars into famous household A-list names. Plus, his dramas are usually awesome.

The drama has Jang Geun-seok playing two characters - passionate, sentimental artist and a carefree photographer. The drama will tell two stories: one in the '70s and one in 2011. The show will deal with young love in both settings and explore the way the two generations dealt/deal with the complications and heartbreak of love.

I have no idea if the two characters Jang places are connected. In a way the series plot reminds me of the film, The Classic, which also explored two love stories in two generations; and, had the same actress playing the heroine in each.

Anyway. . .no leading ladies have been announced, but a show title has - Love Rides the Rain. Maybe PD Yoon is starting a weather series? Rain, Snow, etc.

According to dramabeans the show will air sometime in late '11 or early '12.
walkwithheroes: [Hong Gil Dong] ([Film] Me to You)
Firstly, I want to give all my American f-listers a Happy 4th. I think it's become too crazy, but even I ate the hotdogs and the red, white, and blue strawberry shortcake.

Secondly, Myung Wol the Spy has several stills out - it looks like a fun drama with a bit of angst thrown in. Is it July 11th yet?

Thirdly, I'm suddenly looking forward to the weekend drama A Thousand Kisses because of the secondary cast: Kim So Eun (Boys Before Flowers) has been added as the leading lady's (Seo Young Hee) younger sister. She's also in love with Ryu Jin's character (Summer Scent, Loving You a Thousand Times). And Ryu Jin's character may or may not be the ex-husband of Seo Young Hee's character. How juicy!

Fourthly, a new Korean drama has been announced - Forget Me Not and the leading man is rumored to be Song Seung-Heon (East of Eden, My Princess). Also, the drama will be written by Kim Soo-Hyun, who wrote the weekend drama hits Life is Beautiful and Mom Has Grown Horns.
walkwithheroes: [Hong Gil Dong] ([Dream High] Broken Heart Girls)
A second season of the addictive drama Dream High has been announced. It will air in January of 2012 and will have a whole new cast. My thoughts on this are mixed, because I did love the first season, but mostly due to the characters. I'm not sure if I could take six new Idols coming in; especially as Idols can be very hit-and-miss acting wise. Hell, some of the cast of Dream High only became 'good', acting wise, toward the middle or end of the drama.

Higher-ups from KBS had this to say: “Whether we’ll be casting rookie idols like ‘Dream High’ and ‘Jungle Fish,’, or whether we’ll be going through an audition process is still up for discussion. There’s a high probability that the season will begin airing in January of 2012, just in time for winter break.”

So what might change for “Dream High Season 2″? The representative did not reveal much, but said, “The original format of ‘Dream High’ was great, so we’re planning to carry it over.”

Again, I'm not so sure how I feel about this, as part of the fun of the first season was the misfits becoming stronger and the craziness of their teachers. I guess that the second season will take place in 2012, when the original characters from season one are rising stars. Wonder if they'll cameo?
walkwithheroes: [Hong Gil Dong] ([Rainbow Romance] Kiss the Girl)
I've watched the first episode of My Princess today, and I liked it. It's written by the writer of Secret Garden, City Hall, the Lovers dramas, and On Air; whose known for her fast-paced drama, breezy scenes, and witty dialogue, and I think she's bringing all of that over to this romantic comedy. The cast seems very spot-on in their roles as well.

The story is rather simple - though, it doesn't make that much sense in the real world - a normal woman in her mid/late 20s, is found to be a missing princess of Korea. And, the government and Korean people reinstate the monarchy just as she's found. So, it's up to a government official (and Chaebol) to train her in the art of being a Princess. It's a very far-fetched story. But, thankfully, the writer seems to understand that. She focusing - at the moment - on the relationships and slowly building up the issue of an everyday person suddenly being royalty and what that means.

The Korean monarchy ended in 1910, with Yi Cheok. Though, there is Yi Won, Lee Haewon, and Yi Chung - all elderly Korean citizens, who are members of what was once the Korean Imperial Household. So. . .not totally sure how Seol would be the big find, but whatever. It's drama world and there are things I don't know about Korean royalty.

Anyway. . .back to my thoughts on the episode: It's fluffy. Get over it, get over yourself: it's fluff. Yes, the writer is excellent enough to make it good fluff (I'm seeing shades of Prosecutor Princess), but I think we all remember Hello, Miss!. So, as of now - it's speedy, light, fluff with good dialogue. But, I understand that it could turn on me at any moment. I do like that despite the fluffiness of the piece, the writer is already dropping some more serious undertones. So, maybe it can get a bit dramatic without getting crazy.

Character Thoughts )

Overall, I like the characters - especially the chemistry between the two leads. I think the storyline of the lost Princess could be fun, as well as the (angsty) aftermath of Seol taking on the role of Korea's Princess and what that could mean for her relationship with Hae Young. I like the two leads and see potential in the overall story arcs of the series. This is staying on my 'watch list'. Hopefully, this marks a change in the somewhat lack-luster Korean romantic comedies of the past year. (Especially as they seem to be making more and more of them. I'd hate to have to give up Korean dramas all together!)

Episode One: 7/10. With room for improvement. But, a nice fluffy start (with shades of drama) to begin with. I look forward to more.
walkwithheroes: [Hong Gil Dong] ([Playful Kiss] You Like Me)
It may seem like I'm only watch three dramas: Giant, Gloria, and Mary Stayed Out All Night, but that's not true. Yes, they are the ones I gush and rant about, but there are other dramas on my watching list. The thing is most of them are slow with the subtitles, so I don't really write about them or I am watching, but am unsure if others want to read my thoughts.

Now, because the semster is nearly over - as are some of the Japanese dramas I'm watching - I've decided to share some thoughts and pimp some dramas. And, yes, there are spoilers.

Only humans suffer pangs of conscience )

Overall I'm really loving this winter drama season.
walkwithheroes: [Hong Gil Dong] ([Film] A Rabbit and a Lizard)
With four episodes left, Giant is trying to wrap up its million plot lines and fill in all those damn plotholes. And while some of these things make me happy, it also makes me annoyed. Why? Because a lot of it seems rushed and half-ass.

Four episodes left and for the first time in sixteen episodes the writer remembers the plot )

In other news: episode 6 of Mary didn't air today because of the Asian Games. Funny, I thought it wouldn't air because of what happened at the boarder earlier. But, no, they canceled today's episode for swimming.
walkwithheroes: [Hong Gil Dong] ([Liar's Game] For You)
I just finished skimming episode 31 of Gloria, and I have to say: The Fab Four (JJ, KS, YS, DA) are so smart. At the same time they are breaking my heart. As for Creepy - he has got to go. Like now. Some spoiler-filled thoughts follow the cut:

Everyone knows that if you want the girl, you have to stalk her and ruin her life )
walkwithheroes: [Hong Gil Dong] ([My Lucky Star] Quiet Love)
Well, things are certainly going to get interesting next week. The thing I really like about this show is the way it totally uses Korean drama cliches, but in a tongue-and-cheek kind of way.

I have had a horrible cold for the last week. I'm still getting over it - my nose leaks when I look down. Because of my cold, I haven't done any school work; I'm so behind, it's not good. But, I have been watching dramas. That I can do any time. It's a new season in Japan, so of course I'm trying stuff out.

Spoilers! )

As for Taiwanese and Chinese dramas - it will depend on what gets subbed.
walkwithheroes: [Hong Gil Dong] ([SCC] I know you; I know you too)
My throat is sore. I'm coughing and sneezing. I cannot focus. My nose is leaking a bit. I have some aches. And, I'm sleepy. Cold and flu season, is that you? At least I have tomorrow off from classes.

And tomorrow is the start of You're Beautiful. It's the Hong sisters, it has to be good.  Right?

But, IRIS - could they stop with the press releases everyday? We get it, you're going to be EPIC and Legen...Wait For It...Dary. Just premier and let us see for ourselves. Otherwise, it'll be a major let down.

  • I started school and am taking four (almost wrote fourteen. lol) I thought it would be easy, but - I am starting to think there will be a lot of reading and studying. (Oi) For one thing: I have the same Biology prof. as I did last spring. She's known for her harsh tests and her 95 notes per chapter. Yes, chapter. And there are four to six tests on a chapter. Tha's about 380 to 570 pages of notes per test. Thankfully, myself and three other girls have gotten a study group together. We nare meeting tomorow and then twice a week for the more next two weeks - first test is on Feb. 5th. Which is also the day of my first Stat. test. I have a feeling there will be lots of reading and word defining over the next couple of weeks. Because, seriously, my Stat. prof. cannot teach. She basically spends the entire one hour and fifteen minutes reading defs off sheets of paper. And sadly, she's the only prof. teaching the class at my college. :/ It's my last math, so I'll just have to suck it up. As for my other two classes: my American Lit teacher seems like he won't be around much - he's having some health issues, the poor guy. As for my Survey of the Arts teacher - way too much of an art snob for my taste. Who cares about light, lines, and shapes? I don't. I care about what the artist was trying to say, what the piece says to me, and if the piece makes me feel something.

  • This japanese drama season is going to be so busy for me. I started off with a list of about ten shows that I wanted to check out; though it's now been taken down to:Love Shuffle, Uta no Onii-san, Kami no Shizuku, Zeni Geba, and Mei-chan no Shitsuji. I may also try Triangle. I do have the first episode Triangle on my computer, with subs. I just haven't watched it yet. I tried Voice, and despite loving the cast, just could not get into it.  Uta no Onii-san had  a good first episode, but I will admit to being a little bored. However, a few people told me the second episode was better, so I'll see if it's a keeper on my download list. I'm also waiting for Love Shuffle and Kami no Shizuku to have subtitles. Zeni Geba had a flashback heavy first episode. But, the second episode looks good. Too bad it seems like no one (I know) is watching it. I'm loving Mei-chan, though! It's like, the crack!drama of the season.

  • On the korean drama season front: it looks likes it might just be Boys Before Flowers.  I like the leads, of course. However - I am 'shipping Yi Jung and Ga Eul so hard. They just fit so well together, and really do seem more like the typical Korean drama romcom OTP then Jan Di and Joon Pyo. Don't get me wrong: I love JD/JP - they have lovely chemistry and their love/hate has always been a fav. I'm just really loving YJ/GE. As for  Ji Hoo. . . uh, a lot of it has to do with Kim Hyun Joong - who is slowly getting better - but, JH is just coming off as rather unfeeling and even a little cruel in terms of kissing JD and his 'tude toward the aftermath. I understand why he's doing what he's doing, but it is bad form. And then there's Woo Bin, who never seems to have anything to do no matter what asian nation he's in. I kid, I think Kim Joon is doing fine. I can see him playing the "friend" role and the "secondary guy" for a few more years, before getting his chance as a leading man - maybe.
  • I may also watch The Return of Iljimae  - if it gets subbed. Really just KST and With S2 do Korean subtitles. And I know With S2 isn't subbing it. As for KST, who knows. They still haven't finished Tazza and who knows what they are planning on doing next.

  •     In casting news: Yoo Ha Na (of My Lucky Star) is going to be in another Tw-idol-drama! She signed a three series contract with  SETTV, but was "frozen" for the last couple of years. I'm not sure why she was "frozen" - maybe to learn Mandarin? Maybe because they wanted to pair her with Jimmy Lin again? I don't know, but her new drama is called Next Station, Happiness. She'll be staring with Ming Dao. Ming Dao was in several very popular idol-dramas - mostly with  Chen Qiao En. All that is really known about the series is wht Ming Dao dropped in an interview - his character will become a father during the late part of the series.  (Plus, and this has nothing to do with the drama, but : apparently the lead male role in Fated to Love You was written for him. Which explains why that character (in the three or four early episodes I watched) reminded me of the characters I've seen Ming Dao play) Lastly - am I the only one that thinks Ming Dao has a huge head? Everything I see him, I think: His head is huge.

  • I watched Long Love Letter, the Japanese drama from 2002 over the course of last week.  It was. . . odd, and a bit creepy, and yet. . . I really loved it. It had some of the best acting I've seen in a japanese drama. The kids were brilliant, as were their two adult caregivers. LLL was heartbreaking and yet moving at the same time. It explored the human psych really well. In a way, it reminded me of the early episodes of LOST - before all the Others, polar bears, smoke monsters stuff. I want to write more about this series, so look forward to it having its own post, a video, and maybe even a Otomo/Nishi Ayumi fic.  BTW: the actress that played Nishi isn't listed on dramawiki. But, I know I have seen her somewhere before. Anyone know the actress?

  • Lastly: look forward to two Tree of Heaven vids and one Season of the Sun vid - soon!
