Overall, I really liked S4 of Being Human. It must not have been easy, losing all but one of their four leads. But, they brought the new characters in beautifully and I really enjoy them. The series/season four story arcs were brilliant, and I love that this season/series (like S1 and S3) had a great mix of humor, heart, and angst. I look forward to seeing a S5.

Another Sunday, another posts about my two favorite shows. I watched Once with my sister this week, and she had the best thing to say about it: "I don't know if it's me, the fairy dust, the egg, or you - but, this is love." lol. Anyway. . .

Due to the Oscars, only Being Human aired this week. But, that won't stop me from sharing a few random Once Upon a Time thoughts with all of you. As always, there are spoilers.

random Once thoughts )
walkwithheroes: [Once Upon a Time] (True Love's First Kiss)
Another Sunday, another night of shows.

Being Human is still finding itself, or rather its new style. They have a solid arc going with the 'war child' thing and with the new housemates finding their way with one another. After last week's brilliant episode, Once Upon a Time slowed things down with another Charming/Snow (MM/David) episode. Truthfully, I find it a bit hard to worry about Charming in fairy tale land, because I already know he gets a semi-happy ending.

walkwithheroes: [Being Human] (Giddy Dorks)
Sunday is shaping up to be my day of the week. Two dramas that I really enjoy play on this day: Once Upon a Time and Being Human. This week saw two awesome episodes of these dramas. Actually, I would say that "Skin Deep" is (so far) the best episode of Once. Though, "1955" wasn't as strong as "Eve of War", it was still a solid episode.

Under the cut you'll find some spoiler-filled thoughts and a gif or two.

walkwithheroes: [Being Human] (Cling to Dear Life)
I was quite surprised to see that the fourth series of Being Human had started this week. And to such little fanfare on the BH groups at LJ.

We start off the new series a month or so after the end of series three. Nina and George's baby has been born and the Old Ones are heading toward Europe.

So. . .I loved it. I think the writing is still brilliant, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what the new characters bring to the table. And we have a huge mysterious story line with the baby and what we saw in the future. I can't wait to see how series four pans out.

I'm shipping Coma Girl aka Ji Hyun and Death Boy aka Scheduler from 49 Days, and the drama hasn't aired yet. Is that weird? I'm just shipping from the photos, I don't even know what relationship they'll have. I'm slightly confused: if Ji Hyun is possessing Yi Kyung for 12 or so hours a day, then what will Nam Gyu Ri be doing as a cast member. Are we just going to see her in flashbacks or will her 'ghost' be hanging around when Yi Kyung is free to be herself.

But what of the classic love square? )

I'm looking forward to this, it's written by So Hyun Kyung, who wrote Prosecutor Princess (loved) and Shining Inheritance (really liked). Plus, the cast isn't bad.

In other news: I've given up on Midas, though I may come back to it this summer. And, despite my love of melodrama, I don't think I'll watch Thorn Birds. It might be too melodramatic, even for me.

In non-Asian drama news: Being Human, S3 ends this Sunday. I'm not sure I can make it. I've loved this season/series - it combined the humor and wacky fun or S1 with the darkness and angst of S2. I think S3 was the best in terms of overall series/season arcs, actually. Anyway, very excited for Sunday!

This week Gloria ends. After 50 episodes and 27 weeks (it didn't air two weeks in a row thanks to sporting events) this weekend drama comes to an end tomorrow. I have to admit that I've really loved this show and its characters - mostly DA and YS. So, I'm excited to watch tomorrow and see how it ends for everyone involved.

My Princess is starting to enter its dramatic phase, so I'm interested to see where that goes. Though, I'm mostly watching for the OTP.

Dream High has become an obsession and with episode eight, we enter the turning point of the drama. This is a weird drama for me, because I am eight years out of high school, and this is a high school drama - yet, I find myself drawn to the characters. I find myself thinking: "I've felt the same way recently". That may be because this is my last year at university and I'm starting to think about the 'real' world; while the characters in this drama are fighting for their dramas. I'm thinking episode eight has a time jump of some sort, because of the newest promo pictures - skinny PS - so that's something that I'm looking forward to.

walkwithheroes: [Hong Gil Dong] ([Film] Beautiful Girl)
Being Human begins its third series tomorrow night. I'm excited, but not overly so. I know that many times the first episode of a new series/season is just set-up, so not too much happens. (BTW: has anyone else seen the ads for the U.S. remake? What is with the U.S. remaking all these British shows at once: Shameless, Skins, Being Human - why not just show the originals? The Sy-fy channel shows Merlin - they couldn't show Being Human?)

Also - I watched the first episode of the MTV Skins and thought it was alright. I give it a C; not bad but not great. Some of the acting isn't very good, but I see potential in some of the characters and actors. It was rather tame compared to the U.K. version - even though they used the same script - so I'm slightly confused with all the anger over it from the conservative groups. (They like The Secret Life of the American Teenager - a show all about teen sex, but not this?)

I am all caught up with both My Princess and Dream High:

I think MP is really a marathon type show; it is very fluffy and addictive because of the interaction of the OTP. The plot is slowly starting to come together, which I like. But, the Secondary Female is truly just evil - I want to punch her in the face. The sister isn't much better. Why is she so jealous; even before Seol was shown to be the missing Princess, Dan was mean to her. I want to know why.

Dream High is also rather addictive, and like My Princess, would be a fun drama to marathon. Surprisingly, I'm not shipping much in this drama (just Jason/Pil Sook) - the shipper and character wars on soompi are crazy. I also like all the characters, even the "evil" ones. I'm more interested in the interactions and friendships. The storyline is a bit thin, and the acting isn't always solid, but I like these characters.

I'm still watching Gloria; I'm up to episode forty-six with subtitles. I love the way everything is coming together. But, I've had to stop going to Soompi - they are all about JJ/KS and have to regard for the rest of the storylines and characters. I like JJ/KS, but I do care about the other storylines and would like to discuss that sometimes. Anyway - I like the way the show is wrapping up and the way the character arcs are all slowly ending.

The new Japanese television season has started, but I'm not sure what to watch. It seems most of the dramas are crime/mystery/cop based, and I'm really not in the mood for that. For my Japanese viewing, I'm more in the mood for something more romantic, as its been a while since I've watched a good romantic Japanese drama. But, I'm not interested in Fuyu no Sakura (she's having an affair; even if she doesn't know it, it's still not my thing) or Taisetsu na Koto wa Subete Kimi ga Oshiete Kureta (I'm not a Toda Erika fan). I don't think I'll be watching any new Japanese dramas this season.

So - what is everyone else watching?
walkwithheroes: [Hong Gil Dong] ([Being Human] Going for the Cheek)
I've decided that 2010 was a great year for couples, OTPs, ships, whatever you wish to call them. I've made two different lists: one for Western Television and one for Asian Dramas. In order to make the list couples had to have certain things:

01. I had to have watched the series in 2010/it had to have aired in 2010.
02. They had to have been a couple or have had UST/potential couple-dom in the future.
03. I had to have loved them and wanted them to be together. (I had to want them to be together; not just liked them because they were the show's couple)
04. They had to have been together as a couple/potential couple for at least three episodes.

For the next three days, I'll bring you the Western couples. Today, I give you Number Three -
From Being Human - Mitchell/Annie. (I'd also like to give a special shout-out to the OT3 that is Mitchell/Annie/George and the Bromance of George/Mitchell - but, that's for another day and another list.

We lost her )

Tomorrow, Number 2.
walkwithheroes: [Hong Gil Dong] ([Being Human] Happiness Is You)
Ages ago I watched a 'one-off' pilot for a show called Being Human. It was a fairly straight-forward concept - three 20-somethings live together in a house and cope with life. There was, however, a twist - the 20-somethings were a vampire, werewolf, and ghost. The creator of the show, Toby Whithouse, originally envisioned the show being about a sex-addict (the vampire), a man with anger issues (werewolf), and a woman suffering from Agoraphobia (the ghost). He later changed it to include the sci-fi/fantasy/horror elements. Whithouse decided that all the horror stuff - vampires, werewolves, ghost would be used as metaphors for the addicts and issues that people face.

The pilot, which was meant to be a sixty minute one-off, (if it was popular there would be a chance for a pick-up, but it could stand alone) aired in early February of 2008. It became a huge hit with fans and critics alike.

So, BBC 3 picked up for a series of six episodes that aired from January 2009 until March of that same year. (Some changes to the cast were made as the creators decided to 'go less Gothic' with the vampires and some of the actors' options had expired.) The show returned for a second series of eight episodes in January of 2010 and ended in February of 2010. Filming has begun on series three, which should air in January of 2011.

Now, I'd like to give my thoughts on both series. I watched the pilot a week after it aired and watched series one as it aired. But, I didn't watch series two until this past week for various reasons which I'll mention.

I've got this friend. He says the human condition, human nature, being human, is to be cold and alone. Like someone lost in the woods. It's safe to say he's a 'glass-is-half-empty' kind of guy )

Overall I recommended this series to those on my flist. Though, I think I'm a bit late as I believe most on my flist have watched this series. My overall score for both series (and the pilot) is a solid B+.
